Squee!! Squee squee!! I'm trying to resist the urge to call Jason at work every five minutes to see when he's coming home so that we can go to best buy to get it. *bounces* SQUEE!!
That movie brings back memories. It was on the same crap-ass tape that we'd recorded The Dark Crystal on. In both cases, I was too young to really get what was going on. I realize what it was all about now, but I don't know that I've actually seen it since I was like 5.
I agree that is worthy of worship and have been pimping its release at work. Though I have only watched it twice I think, it is also the only Miyazaki film I have scrambled to buy which speaks volumes. Not that his other movies aren't good too.
I love the movie, I really, really do. But I think you'd really like the manga a lot too. It starts out pretty true to the movie (as it should be since Miyazaki did both), but it's a lot more...involved. It doesn't end the same for one. For two, there are a lot of characters in the manga that don't exist in the movie (I really liked the boy from the sea of decay, I understand why he's not in the movie, but I liked him...) and they develop a lot more of the secondary characters. Like Kushana has so much more to her, hre family, and the royal intrigues surrounding them than what the movie can show. And there are little tidbits, like the fact that Nausicaa's mother had eleven children before her and Nausicaa was the only one who survived into maturity because of the poisons and toxins in their enviroment.
I mean, it's not exactly like the movie by any means. There's just more to it. More explanation, more characters, more plot. I absolutely love both the movie and the manga. I know that there are two versions of the story out there. One's the dinky movie version where they've taken pictures from the movie and put it in a book (which I don't really understand the purpose of, because if I wanted to see the movie, I'd watch the movie...>_>) and then there's the other Miyazaki version which has been released and rereleased in like a bajillion different forms.
I think they both rock, and I think you'd enjoy the manga.

Date: 2005-02-23 07:16 am (UTC)By both I meant the movie and the manga. And by manga, I mean the real manga, not the fake movie manga.
(Oh, I so should not try to be coherent at 2:30 in the morning...X_x;;)
