K and I were both reading at lunch - she had a mystery novel and I've got one by Christoper Rice (who is much more interesting a writer than his mother, at least so far).

Coworker notices we're reading...and proceeds to start conversing >_< That aside, he was talking about a book K brought in some time back. A Danielle Steele book, and K and I discussed how she really wasn't that great a writer. But other coworker mentins how he saw one "paragraph" and which point we both rolled our eyes.

Because Steele really doesn't write anything graphic - she's more vanilla than I am, at least from what I recall of her. Anyway, the conversation went on and Coworker said she should bring in another one so he could read "the good parts" and I said Steele was boring, I'd bring him a real bodice-ripper sometime.

He'd never heard the phrase before; it cracked him up. But what amused *me* was what he said later, about "Why read the 200 pages leading up to it? Just get to the interesting stuff."

On a sidenote, this guy is 56, and probably the most open-minded person I work with. It just amused the hell out of me that not only was he discussing romance novels with enthusiasm, he said I should tab the smut scenes so that he could read just those and not have to read the boring stuff.

Mind you that all he usually reads is history stuff that bores *me*. I do wonder now what he goes home and reads at night once his wife is asleep...
