Everyone decided to redo my office and my schedule while I was gone. Clearly I'm not in charge of the fileroom, I'm just a puppet. Every day, I care a little less.
Did not get to see Mirrormask this weekend. As from here on out I am doing *nothing* except writing until I go to see Maile (Yay! Yay! Yay!), will probably just wait until it comes out on dvd.
And now if you'll pardon me, I have notes to type up. They should go in a seperate post, but I'm too cranky and lazy to care.
Arcen
Derived from flower of the same name; different parts of the plant can be used to make powders/syrums of various strengths. Color is a mark of potency, ranging from Violet (weakest) to Red (strongest). "Black" is really just super-concentrated red and usage always results in user's death. "White" is made from a different plant (???) and can be used to completely flush Arcen from the body.
Red - limited quantities, used exclusivley by Brotherhood.
Orange - Used by licensed soldiers, brotherhood. (this is the 'no turning back' point)
Yellow - Used by military, licensed civilians. From yellow up must have a license and permission from ranking officer (or civilian equiv.)
*illegal dealing in Arcen results in death. *illegal use varies in punishment, depending on color, type (powder/syrum), and extent of addiction.
Green, Blue - "Training colors" for military, some civilians (sailors, mercs, etc. - those who find themsevles in combat or other such situatiosn). Must have license to purchase/use. (this is where addiction becomes a problem)
Indigo, Violet - General use, free for all.
*length of drug's potency varies, depending on wide variety of variables. Skill of user, degree of addiction, color, powder/syrum and how used. Violet, minimal use by skilled individiual can last a month or more. Red, maximum use by a Brother can vanish in a day or last for six months. Generally doses last between 1-4 weeks.
*Arcen makers train for twelve years before being permitted to practice independently. There are 50 licensed makers at the beginning of story. (subject to change)
*most frequently used by the military. Orange and Red are used exclusively by the Brotherhood. Anyone else caught using them is put immediately to death.
*Royalty is not permitted to use more than violet/indigo, for reasons of addiction (in addition to others). Any member of the royal house who goes past it is stripped of rank(generally reduced to Duke or similiar title and still treated with accord).
