Still kinda rough.

Like I said, loosely based on the Palace of Keys (another story I need to finish, *sigh*...).

So.

Two parts to participation, and though I think it'd be more fun if everyone does both parts, totally fly if they do one or the other.

Anyway. Part the first - submitting characters. I don't know if they should be set in a common 'verse' or not. For obvious reasons that would be easier, but for other obvious reasons that's nigh on impossible. But Part one everyone submits a characters, up to two per person. Probably would set that to end in a month.

At the end of that month, all the characters go in the proverbial hat and everyone that wants to write a story submits two numbers. Numbers = chars = the story about whom you must write.

Still with me?

Probably set a deadline of around three months for that part.

Anyone want to play? Someone want to help me set this up? Wonder who else would want to play. If I get enough interested here, I'll set it all up tonight (at least a formal post, website will have to come later).

Feel free to refine, improve, etc. I'm at work and even though I'm at lunch the boss is ever talking shop so my head is in like three places.

But that's the rough of it. So - who's playing?

I don't think I'm totally following. Anyway, I've not much faith in my writing anymore, but I'll help you set it up/put it together if you want.

I'll draw pictures!

Say Beej, you and I play. We each come up with two characters. We put them in a hat. We draw names. You have to write a story with the two chars you get.

Ok... that was the part I got. You lost me up there with the everyone that wants to write a story submits two numbers. Numbers = chars = the story about whom you must write thing.

It doesn't really make a difference; I know I'd flunk it. But like I said, if you want help putting it together, I can do that.

So, Ummmm. No, I won't play. (I don't realyl feel comfortable using characters that aren't my own; that I don't know inside and out.) But I will probably use the Names go into a hat story about my own characters.

That's the part where everyone draws names. I knew I wasn't explaining it well, that's why I don't usually do stuff like this. Part one is where everyone puts 'names' in the hat. Part two is where everyone draws. But not everyone who does part one has to do part two and not everyone who does part two has to do part one.

Mergh =_= I'll try to explain better tonight.

Right. Ok. I got that. I just don't understand the two numbers, numbers=char=story thing. That's the only part that I wasn't getting.

Look nevermind. You're obviously going to expound upon and clarify things later, and I'm just looking/feeling more and more like an idiot as this goes along.

It sounds fun. It really does. I hope it goes well for you.

Eh. I just meant each character will be assigned a number, since I figured that'd be the easiest way to draw names.

Nah. My bad ^^ I shouldn't try to do anything when I'm A)Rushed and 7) terrified boss will see.

That sounds really neat. I'll play?

Mor likely, I'll just randomly assign chars to participants, since that makes more sense. Numbers was just idiot me thinknig aloud and sticking too close to the idea of drawing names rather than being practical.

Might want to work in the same universe. Captain Kirk x Snape might be a little odd. (Thank you, magic ass, for providing that example for us.) But, like I think you were thinking, then you'd have to figure out what universes everyone is most familiar with so everyone that wants to can participate. =/ The trouble with doing it with mixed universes is you still run the risk of getting a fandom you're not familiar with.

Maybe you could do character types? Like, I'd draw "a pirate" and "a hypochondriac"? Or "angsty teenager" and "hobo"? Stuff like that? I know those are pretty bad examples, but you get the idea. That kills some of the fun of playing in the different fandom, but then everyone could participate. Hell, for added grins, I think we should have to draw from a list of settings on that as well. (Werewolf, catboy, deserted island. Ready, set, write.)

However you do it, I'll submit and play along. =)

i'm gonna take a plunge and say i'm in. i need a deadline though. most definitely. and one other question . . . is this a fandom thing or an original characters thing? i'm asking because one of your commentors mentioned snape.

Original. I'm insane, I'm not so loco as to attempt fandom. 'Sides, that would defeat the purpose of people creating characters.

And no worries, there will be deadlines ^_~

All will be finalized and posted by the weekend (more likely over the weekend).

I would totally submit a char., and I may pull out another char. to write about, depending on how my muses are cooperating, seeing as they haven't been very loveable as of late. ^^;

No unverise to know. It'll all be orignal. I just mean modern day vs. sci-fi vs. fantasy. Too many different kinds of verses would make it hard for writers when they get say a cowboy from the wild west and a dragon from ye olde fantasy land.

I think you meant to say that the characters will be made into a list (with numbers to match) and probably will be mixed up by you or any other organiser, then people who're playing have to choose numbers, and they get the characters whose names are listed next to those numbers on your list, yes?

I'd like to play, but you know what my school-schedule is like... I can help you set it up the first time round if you want (do you want to try asking about it on [livejournal.com profile] simple_slash too to see if anyone wants to play from there or do you want to keep it small at first?). Hopefully by the time the next round comes around (if there is one) I'll be able to play for real. ♥

you know, you could just pick one universe to start with and if this round is successful, you can start adding universes (one at a time). more challenging for those who want to test themselves as writers.

and if we're putting in votes for universes . . . something fantasy would be my vote.
