Harry Potter, 20 feet, and Woodhenge
Dec. 24th, 2003 01:10 amSo the adventure to Bath began at approximately 5:00 pm on December the 21st. Allie needed money so after catching dinner we ventured to the nearest ATM, which happened to be at King's Cross. Any fan knows this is where Harry Potter goes every year to attend Hogwarts. So we got a picture of us at Platform 9 3/4. We were very happy.
Then we rode the Vomit Inducing Bus to the beautiful city of Bath. I must say this was favorite stop so far. It kicked ass - the city is gorgeous. We took a tour that ran just over two hours and basically went all over the city. It's freakin' cool, the whole present day city is built over the Roman city. So walking around you can occasionally catch bits of the lost city, twenty feet beneath the present day. Then we toured the Roman Baths, and that rocked. Romans were pretty spanky builders, most of what they created is still used to control the water today. I thought it was cool...We sampled some of the water, it's tastes like a weird combination of fish, chalk and ass. Gomes was wussy and wouldn't drink hers, so I had two glasses of the craptastic stuff. But if it really has healing properties, then hey - I'm set for life.
We really did't want to leave Bath, but something far more vital was planned so the next day we left first thing for Salisbury. I'm sure Angela is twitching by now, b/c Salisbury really only means one thing to most Goober Tourists. And that would be...
Stonehenge. I'm going to be honest and say...it was cool, but I don't get the zealous attraction. The way it looked, and what with the clouds and all we seriously expected Enya or Enigma to start playing. But we have TONS of pictures, because we're camera happy like that. Gomes was funny when we first saw it from the top of a double decker bus, but I'll let her tell the full glory of Stonehenge. We kept offending people all day by laughing and cracking up, making references to "woodhenge" and "strawhenge" which we unfortunately were unable to see due to time contraints. There's always next time I suppose.
We're back in London now, settling in to relax and enjoy Christmas. Feels kind of weird, being here while the rest of our family is home in good ol' NC. One of our party has abandoned us, so it will only be four for Christmas. Gomes is making spaghetti and meatballs, I'm in charge of salad and Allie is managing dessert. 'Tis all for now. Happy Christmas to you all!
