Vampire Hunter D: Demon Deathchase

maderrIf there are any VHD fans on the flist (that might now already know), Deathchase is the third book in the series (or at least released here) and it's the one upon which the Bloodlust movie was based.
I love the movie. It's one of those I can watch anytime, anyplace. D is one of the few in the world of vampires I like, and I LOVE him. My brother will tell you all about my sick sad addiction should he choose to humiliate me (which he probably will, unless something has managed to trump his ever present desire to do so. /tangent).
The first movie is fun(ny), the second movie is gorgeous (did I mention I'm also an Amano fangirl?)
Anyway.
Demond Deathchase is the source of Bloodlust. I was expecting differences. Books and movies never have much in common.
But holy bloody fucking hell.
First off - the Marcus brothers are Fucked. Up. Major. For serious. In the movie, their selfish greedy assholes but kinda cool and they look out for each other.
In the book they are batshit loco sick and twisted motherfuckers. Like Borgoff strapping a timebomb to Grove's chest while he cries and says he loves Grove the most.
Or my personal favorite:
Leila in the movie sort of fell in with them; the Marcus brothers more or less adopted her. She's part of the team, tough but looked out for by her 'big brothers'
In the book, she's definitely their sister and when she gets a boyfriend they decide HELL NO BITCH and ALL FOUR RAPE HER. And Kyle does it again to force Grove to have an 'episode' so he'll do his spooky shit.
There's more besides. Fucked Up, Man.
And Mayerling and the chick whose name I always forget. Die. Thisclose to getting away (and certainly not by spaceship, no they were just going to run and hide the rest of her life) then Borgoff the Half-Eaten and Now Possessed Fuckwit kills him and then she commits suicide.
You can always tell when ia story is Japanese in origin. Japs look at the greeks and their tragedies and go "Aw, how cute their little efforts are."
I do love these books, and D, though the descriptions make me laugh. Hang on, lemme find a good one...

Scattering the shower of moonlight far and wide, the shadowy form of a horse and rider climbed a desolate hill. The mount awas juts an average cyborg horse, but the features of the rider were as clean and cler as a jewel, lik the strange beauty of the darkness and the moon crystallized. Every time the all-too-insistent wind touched him, it trembled with uncertainty, whirled, and headed off bearing a whole new air. Carrying a disquieting aura. His wide-brimmed traveler's hat, the ink black cape and scarf darker than darkness, and the scabbard of the elegant longsword that adorned his back wear all faded and worn enough to stir imaginings of the arduous times this traveler had seen.
The young travler had his eyes closed, perhaps to avoid the wind-borne dust. His profile was so graceful it seemed the Master Craftsman in heaven above had made it His most exquisite work. The rider appeared to be thoroughly exhausted and immersed in a lonely sleep. And Tale of the Dead Town doesn't come out 'til August, which saddens me.
