Thought I'd try taking the evening bus again. Granted, I don't miss the thing. I hate the evening bus - it's crowded and full of assholes.

But I'm tired of being a wuss, I'm tired of being afraid and my general impression from those around me is that I'm overreacting. Lord knows I do that all the time anyway, so fine.

Really, though, I'm just tired of being afraid. That's no way to live. If I get mugged again or worse then hopefully I'll live to bitch about it.

Pretty much broke at the moment, but when I have spare money intend to try that permit thing again, and eventually get around to a license. I hate driving. Loathe despise and detest it. But it will have to be done. Maybe in a year or so I can afford a car and then I'll only have to worry about being smashed to pieces instead of being punched.

I'm sort of feeling pissy this morning. Can you tell?

Christ I can't wait 'til my vacation.

Yeah... I'm supposed to work on my driving this summer sometime. Necessary evil, I suppose, if I want my Seebring convertible to be able to get around without having to trouble others.

I can understand that you're tired of being afraid. But I wouldn't say you were overreacting. Honestly, I think it's hard for anyone who hasn't been their to understand your reaction, and that's why they think thus.

I would suggest lessons in self defense, but between time, cash, and the fact that you're such a little stick... ;-> And I will admit, I can try to put myself in your shoes, but not only do I not live anywhere that I can even see that happening, I think I just radiate that sense that I am just waiting to tear someone's face off if they try to attack me. Must be, because I seem to be able to walk down dark alley's in the city at 0200 and come away unscathed.

I got it! When I get out of the Navy and you get your big publishing contract, you can hire me to be your Chauffer/Body Guard! ;-> It would be great! So... what kind of car do you want to be driven around in? ::grin::

For the most part, driving isn't too bad. I had initial resistance to being on the road with crazy people, but I wouldn't give up my ability to go places when I need or want to. Before 16, I had maintained that I was going to drive a tank or armored car.
The real downside is that cars require money and effort to maintain. Though, proper maintenance and good choice of vehicle can help keep risk of serious repairs down.

I don't think you're overreacting, but it is better to prepare and reduce risk factors than to worry. Infallibly, I wonder at least once a day that if someone were to threaten me or others in the current situation, how I would take them down. Though really, I'm not suggesting you have my mental state. Goofy was offering my armbreaking services to Jodie for her husband, and I was told she was slightly interested.
I, for one, wish someone would punch me awake in the morning and make me walk them to the bus stop. Though I've been, doing better. I was only 15 minutes late today rather than 1.5 hours (the norm for the past year).

Oh, and Deer! Did I mention I already own several handguns and have a permit to carry concealed? Not to mention that Rich likes to hang my silhouettes from the firing range on the corkboard... Not so sure if he's proud or figures that's a good thief deterrent. But.. See! I'm all ready! ;->

I can provide basic information on how to deliver lethal and permanently crippling blows.

I only have two. I could easily get a concealed carry, but I was only going to do that if I got something more fun (and a bit more compact) to carry. Then there'd be a reason for me to tag along on some friends' urban explorations into some less savory parts of town.

I enjoyed firing the SAW support weapon in Vegas at the silhouette of Duane. I still joke about that with my friend Scott. "Duane, how I hate him so." I could have picked Saddam, but I chose Duane.

Admittedly, I only have the concealed carry permit because Washington pretty much requires it for me to carry my weapons anywhere in my vehicle that is not locked in a case in my trunk. And even that sometimes doesn't go over well with the police. But hey, I have no issues putting it to good use! ;->

I'm dying for a chance to go fire off the big ass 50 calibers we have mounted on the ship. Gotta get my hookups in weapons to get me out there.

I did get pulled over by a cop a while back. He let me off with a warning. I looked at my friend and told him he picked a good day not to look like a terrorist as he was sitting on many rounds of ammo. One of the reasons I like him is because he just shrugged and said, "That's not really a lot." Sadly, I know of no good outdoor ranges near Cinci. No gunboats either.
