goddamn book
Jun. 2nd, 2003 08:52 amStart rant. Be warned though, I'm about to spoil the ending of a book.
I was tearing the bookstore apart yesterday, dying for a good book. It just so happened that the book I stumbled across turned out to be a full on yaoi story. I started reading on the car ride home, and didn't stop until roughly one am. It rocked right up until about six or so pages 'til the end.
Where they promptly killed my fav char. It wouldn't have pissed me off so much, except that he didn't need to die. There was no logical, necessary reason for him to die. It was totally a "well let's do something cool and unexpected" sort of ending. So the one guy dies, and his lover is so torn and destroyed that he has to be dragged out of the country to recover. So there's not even a bittersweet ending, just a "let's all be fucking miserable as goddamn hell" ending.
Yay verily, I say unto thee I am PISSED. It seems every story I read these days is nothing but misery and depression. Now, I don't mind angst-I'm a huge fan. "It's all about the angst" is something I say frequently and often. But gratuitous amounts of angst shouldn't preclude the occasional happy ending.
Can anyone reccommend a story that actually ends on some sort of positive note. I swear to god, one more miserable ending and I'll kill someone.
And since I've already ruined the end, for anyone that cares the story is called The Fall of the Kings. I'd tell you the authors, but that would require retrieving the book from the corner into which I angrily threw it, and I refuse to touch it until I've gotten my fix of happy endings.
End rant.
