Hannibal Rising
Jan. 27th, 2007 11:40 amLoved Hannibal Rising
My mom and I were talking about this in the grocery store. Far too many people watch/read the Hannibal books expecting him to do something good, to 'redeem' himself. He's never going to, so stop hoping.
Hannibal is a monster, he chose to be that way, he likes being that way, he has no desire to be 'good.' He is intelligent, startingly slow, talented, ruthless, hella scary. And damned fascinating.
I liked Hannibal Rising. There was one char I hated, though I tried hard to like. Simply too perfect, too flawless. I guess that was sort of the idea, but I wanted the char to go far far away.
Seeing how Hannibal became the monster we know was damned cool. The series remains one of my favorite, and I will probably go and reread the whole thing now.
Alas, the movie looks to be as stupid and disappointing as Hannibal. Sadly, Silence of the Lambs and Red Dragon were the only two they did worth a damn (and Red Dragon was *_* - why can't they do that with the others? Because they're fucking wussy and won't do Hannibal the way he really was, they dumb him down to Scary Movie! Horror instead of the real monster he is grrrr).
More technically, the book is slow paced. If that's a drag for you, probably won't like this. Thomas also likes to get a little bit over the top in describing somet thing, but not enough I'm rolling my eyes.
All right, now I must to chores. Clean fridge, put groceries away...then maybe I'll say screw the rest and write. Kidnapped verse appears to have taken hold of me again. Somehow, this is all Tygs fault.
Pardon any typos. My hands are still frozen. Brrr, I can't wait for the weather to warm.

I'm sorry. That's kind of a sore subject for me. Glad you liked the book, and I can't wait until I can read it! ^_^
