Fucking hell I am sick of winter. No one will ever fucking convince me that damn near killing myself to get home is better than even a sunburn. Sorry, no. I dread hearing of someone I know in a nasty wreck daily and that increases a hundred fold when the weather is nasty. Nevermind the upteen million other inconvencies. I don't care how motherfucking pretty it is.

Am reading White Guardian by Duo Brand and it's not bad, per se...

It's a prince/fallen soldier sort of thing, and I think what always upsets me about these stories is the pacing.

I mean, let's think about it.

Soldier gives up on country and goes as far away as he can get. X royal decides he wants Fallen Soldier to help him. 5-25 pages later soldier and prince are madly in love and soldier goes home to country he hates to help prince Save the Kingdom. WG might not play out that way, but it certainly seems like it. Anyway, the formula is always one of the same few. The Fallen Soldier is 9/10 an ass with a propensity toward excessive drinking and shameless debauchery - though he can at a moment's notice pick up a sword and lay the smack down.

The prince is either a naive idiot or smart but idealistic. He always goes in disguise but it never lasts long.

Obvously there are things like this in any genre, I'm guilty of plenty of them myself.

But if I was going to play this scene...I think there are better ways to do it.

I am sooooo over winter. -_- I'm sick of being cold, and yeah, I'm totally there with you worrying about people I know getting in accidents. I always make Jason promise that he'll drive careful when it gets like this which is sad, because he's a better driver than me, but still, he does more driving.

I hate the sixteen layers of clothes, I hate the way my glasses fog up when I use a scarf and I can't see where I'm going, I hate the way my cheeks burn and sting when I forgo the scarf, I hate the way it takes fifteen minutes to get the feeling back into my poor frozen fingers when I get inside...so yes, I vote no for winter. Can we impeach it? ;_;

I was eyeballing that one, debating whether I wanted to get it or not. I love the art syle and the pretty bois that Duo draws, but their story lines are really wonky/don't-make-a-lot-of-sense sometimes. I read more of Crimson Spell than WG when they were scanalated though, so I don't know a lot about WG

Amen to that, sister. You said it all.

It's...hasty. Like they took out scenes from a long story and crammed them into a manga. I'll send it to you, if'n you like. The art is pretty, it's a shame the story doesn't reach the same standar.

You know, you guys make really good points against winter, but for all of that I will still love it. I love walking outside and freezing my ass off, I love the snow on my face (even when it stings) and I even love it when I almost fall because the snow is so deep.

I can't really understand why, but winter makes me happy.

And the fact that snow got tomorrow's clases canceled doesn't hurt anything.

Personally I think that the manga are meant to provide eye candy, that's why the falling in love and the background story is not the focus. But I agree with you, a better story only improves the work and makes it stand out among the masses of manga. It's like John Grisham. I loved his books, but after a few I realised the stories and characters were more or less similar and they got boring.

I still remember when I first bought a shounen-ai manga where the uke was *gasp* older than the seme. But other than that, he was a total uke. Since then I discovered that there are quite a lot manga with an older uke, but I yet have to find one with a taller uke. I do remember this one scanlated manga though, and that was shounen-ai without this uke/seme stuff.

LOL. Just finished reading that manga. Thought that it wasn't bad, but certainly it wasn't anything spectacular. (Though it makes the hair-fetishist in me grin.)

And yeah, weather sucks. Though not as bad as in the Maritimes apparently. My friend's father is out in New Brunswick and they opened the door and clearly the snow drift was packed so tight that the snow didn't fall in when they opened it and the door carving was etched into the snow.

>.> and the drift was clearly a metre high.

hmmm... i think i once read a scanlation of this. didn't think much of it really, wasn't even memorable. is this is the one where there was another high ranking official back in court that was in love with the general?

i prefer manga(s) by makoto tateno, youka nitta or toko kawai. XD both for eyecandy and story.
