Some of this I've probably already said, but it bears recounting in more detail. I had a lot of fun, though I'm utterly beat right now.

Classes there are basically just done in "blocks" and I have two groups of students that just switch. The first group I had in the morning, and they were all right. Got a bit roudy right before lunch, but it wasn't any big thing.

The second group was mostly brats, and they did nothing more than fail to complete their work and earn themselves detention on Monday & Tuesday.

Now the funny stuff - no one could get my name right. Even writing it on the board and saying it several dozen times, they kept mispronouncing it. Mostly b/c they were too restless to get it down, if that makes any sense. It was really funny to hear one say "Miss Dear" then another student chime in "Stupid. It's Miss Derr." Then the guy that just gave up, "Miss Megan" and the smartass "Derr." It got ridiculous. And can I say it's still way too odd that they're calling me "Miss" at all? One kid had to say it like three times before I remembered that was me.

My age was a huge topic of debate. Apparently I only look like I'm about 16-18. Did I go to college? Where? Then my age again. Do I live nearby? On my own? Then my age again. It was hard not to start cracking up, they really were hilarious about it. I had no idea I looked that young to people (the nurse who did my TB said the same thing, and so have other people).

What else...oh yeah. The secretary that took me to the class said I had one "good" class and one "so so" class. Then I had three teachers and about six students tell me that I was in for it with the after-lunch class. Apparently this class has quite the reputation.

I taught one kid what Kamikaze actually meant b/c he was insisting he new "every word" (they had to read the article and mark/define the unfamiliar words). Ten minutes later I heard him trying to one up another kid with his new knowledge. It was damned funny.

And a janitor tried to hit on me when I was leaving. Rather an amusing note to end on, I thought.

It was a lot of fun, especially helping some of them out when they didn't understand a word or how to do a grammar problem. I don't know if I'll like it six months from now, but I felt better about myself today than I have in a long time. About the only thing I really hated was crawling out of my warm bed at 5:30. But I'll get over that.
