With King 'tis best to start small. My mom almost never restricted my reading growing up, in fact often threw books at me. But a lot of bodice rippers I couldn't read at first (b/c of the sex) and King she started off actually reading to me, and at first only let me read his short stories.

I def reccomend that route, and Nightmares and Dreamscapes and Night Shift are his best collections ^__^
