The vampire hero is by the book.

The OSC I'm going to stab before this episode is over.

But the best friend is kinda growing on me. He's an asshole, but a goddamn funny (paranoid) asshole.

Otherwise 30 minutes into this show it's just lather rinse repeat.

Why must supernatural detectives always be vampires (and occasionally demons for so called variety). Come on. I refuse to believe I'm the only one who has thought outside the bloodsucking box. Boo hiss.

I think if I keep watching this it would only be because I am nothing if not a glutton for punishment (and lucky you? dear readers, at some point it's gonna piss me off enough to either do more with dwtd or start something brand spanking new. I will whip this supernatural genre back into shape if I have to stake all the fucking vampires myself).

I so need an icon that expresses my feelings on vampires.

Well, Jul's not quite a detective, but she's sure as hell pure-blood boring old human. And I can definitely get behind anything that means more DWTD. :D

The Dresden Files is a series of books and a short lived tv series where the detective is a wizard. :)

I turned on the show only because there was NOTHING else I wanted to see on and I've probably got a masochistic streak hidden somewhere.

This show is so cliche that the concept has been aired on tv at LEAST 3 times that I can think of.

I'd love to see something interesting on tv involving vampires for once.

XD It's times like this that I really start to miss SU2, where everything demonic was, is, and could be possible... except vampires.

In Tanya Huff's Blood books the detective is a woman with a deteriorating eye condition? The vampire is a romance writer.

The best friend is a big part of the reason I'm going to give this series a few more episodes to grow on me.

I wonder if it's too late to convince them to make the best friend the main character.

My brother wanted to watch it, so I ended up watching the entire thing. I agree, I didn't particularly like the reporter, the vampire was ok but boring, and the friend was funny. I think what irritated me the most was that it was all about the romance and not so much about plot and whatever. He sees her, falls in instant love/lust, and there's the show. Why is he a PI? Where did all his money come from? Because it certainly isn't from his detective work, at least what's been shown, and he hasn't been a vampire that long - 60 years - which doesn't seem like enough time to amass a personal fortune and not have to work. Ok, vampire, but he's buying blood, isn't he? and his house?.

Also, the storytelling and camera style reminded me very distinctly of Burn Notice, except not as good.

I vote for more DwtD, but I'll probably be staying away from the show unless my brother decides he actually really likes it, which seems a bit unlikely.

New vampire detective show, huh? This reminds me of "Forever Knight". Honestly, those vampires need to find better jobs than that.

More DWTD, please?

Yeah, I don't mind the TV show in general, but all the changes were irritating.

I thought of that... but they seem to be going for the whole 'bleeding heart' main character - in fact I believe they actually used those exact words, more than once - and I'm not sure how Jason Dohring would do with that. Half of his appeal is that he's an asshole.

A different main character would make me happier about watching the show, though. He is the only cast member that they didn't change since the show's inception. Somebody really wanted him... can't quite imagine why.

What does OSC stand for? I'm guessing the reporter? If so, she didn't particularly bug me, but then I wasn't really paying her much attention.

I'm wondering about the whole 'love' thing, though. The stuff I read about the show mention her as the 'love that he cannot have'/'forbidden love' thing, which is rather tired. But in this episode I saw more of the protective kind of thing, as if she were still a child. But, that's not to say it won't develop into love. Still, it would be interesting to have a vampire show without a Forbidden Love.

The critics like Jason Dohring (the friend/mentor) best so far, too. I liked his character in Veronica Mars, and he is playing mostly the same here, so he should be good.

Wow, this is probably way more discussion than the show has earned. ^_^

Yay, more DwtD or something new!! I do love your reverse inspiration.^_^

OSC is a phrase my sibs and I came up with years ago, mostly to apply to the moronic women in video games but it applies everywhere else too -- Obligatory Stupid Chick. The fuckwit Damsel in Distress, you might say.

Gods that annoyed me. I mean there was no reason for him to act that way, no reason to be obsessed, we only know there might be something cause we're told there will be something. Without being force fed that, I fail to see anything at all -__- Argh, it aggravates!

I imagine it would be trippy to see the kid you killed your wife over, all grown up. And have picked her once over an evil loved one, might make it easy for him to transfer feelings of love to her. Oh, and then there is the whole, 'she is the reason I started to care about humans' bit, making her the symbol of all that is Good and Pure in the World.

But, that's only b/c I was rather good at churning out English essays, not b/c the show did a very good job presenting it. *nods*

Yes, thank you. I watched all of FK on DVD, and was struck so hard by the similarities that I laughed. :)

Some English lit authorities say that there are no new stories, just variations. I'd say the same is true with TV shows. :)

Yes, but there are many variations that are more inspired than the vampire detective one. *points at DWTD*

Besides, were I a vampire, I wouldn't spend my time lamenting the loss of my mortality and do pro bono work. There would me better things to spend the night doing. x_x

One of these days I'm going to write the most obnoxious vampire story on the face of the planet and it will of course have to take place in Transylvania. You're going to be volunteered as my resource for that, and likely your beautiful country will ban me from ever getting within a hundred yards of the border.

I have not been to your journal for a while and am now trying to catch up. This made me wonder, have you read Greywalker. That's sort of a different detective with supernatural abilities story. Although I like the quirky guy-friend Quentin better than the romantic interest. He needs a pretty boy.

She's not actually a supernatural detective. She's a normal detective who just acquired supernatural powers, working on a couple supernatural cases, and trying to figure out wtf is happening to her.
