Adventures from Dickinson & My Anime Life
Mar. 31st, 2004 11:47 amSo apparently Durden just sent the FA department my letter. Heh, methinks I'm no longer going to be invited to all the fun alumni functions. That's okay, I'm pretty tight with DDS - they'll let me in the back door and then I'll get first dibs on all the food.
Concerning a distressed student
President Durden,
I graduated in May last year, but to be honest I wasn't sure for a very long time that I would. My sister currently is going through the exact same problem, that being the Financial Aid Office (as well as Student Accounts, it's often very difficult to know which of those two one should be dealing with).
Let me tell you quite clearly that they are the most condescending, rude, uncaring people I have ever had the displeasure to meet in my life. They're patronizing, cold, and in my four years of experience completely uncaring of the students. Perhaps this sounds harsh, but I've sent you the emails that have been going back and forth between my sister, parents and the office and you can judge for yourself.
Every year but my freshmen one, they let me know of problems with my account only one or two weeks before the deadlines; meaning I had no time whatsoever to do anything about it. My sister one week before the registration deadline was informed that she suddenly owed the school $4000.00. No explanation was given, and all efforts to fix the problem have been ignored and disregarded by the FA Office. It should be further noted that my sister is presently in Russia, and she had to email us here to let us know of a problem because FA did not see fit to send word of the problem here, which might have made more sense given that a student can do very little when she's in Moscow.
Perhaps you're not the one to turn to, but I have learned over four very long years that the office is useless if you're a student. My family has little to no money, I and my sister have had to rely very heavily on loans and grants. We can not just come up with $4000.00. Rather than help us, the FA office has proven (unsurprisingly) useless.
Again, I know this isn't your problem. But you were always good to the students and quite frankly I don't know where else to turn. My sister has worked hard and she deserves to graduate. It is depressing that she may not simply because of the overwhelming incompetence of one office.
Thank you for your time.

And see
rykaine's post for their oh so mature reaction. Dude, it's ridiculous.
