I truly despair for the English language in the US when goddamn Word tells me it's proper to end a sentence with a preposition -__- It makes me want to weep.

Dear Microsoft,

Your grammar check might be more useful if any of you bothered to learn fucking grammar.

Disgusted,
Megan

I kind of gave up on Word's grammar check. It's just annoying. The spelling check is the only thing I use nowadays.

Oh, I gave up relying upon it ages ago. But I use it to check for shit that's easy for me to miss -- like contractions when I write knight stories and stuff. I thought I'd turned off most of the other stuff, but I guess not. It kills me, b/c it picks out split infinitives beautifully, a big oops of mine, but totally fucks up with the preposition thing.

I stopped relying on the grammar check in the nineties when I was writing something about Queen Elizabeth and it told me "Queen is too gender specific. Try using a more neutral word like ruler." I shit you not.

That and sometimes it will tell me a sentence is a fragment when I know damn well it isn't.

Oh, I don't rely on it. But I do use it for some things that I'm too used to writing to remember not to write? So it amuses me when I see the stupid things it bitches about, except I remember some people believe everything it says.

Ruler -__- Riiiight. Ruler Elizabeth. The brilliance leaves me ded.

oh yes, too many people rely blindly on spell/grammar check. English isn't the only language that suffers for it, trust me. It makes me want to rip my hair out. Or, even better, rip someone else's hair out.

Despite it being common sense not to rely on Word to create a perfect paper, there are still people who blindly use it as if their own teachers had looked over their writing. It should be common knowledge, but it isn't.(Just like most 'common' knowledge is not as common as you would like to believe.) If anyone knows anything about writing, they know to reread over their papers. Still, I do find Word aggravating for trying to show that it knows more about writing than I do. I've become friendly with the 'Ignore' button and use it from time to time. I still make mistakes that I need to correct and that is why I use Word. I also get into a flow of writing that leaves me typing rapidly, letting my fingers sprint to catch up with my mind. Since I do not want to disturb this outpouring of the mind, I do not bring my writing to a skidding halt just to go back and fix a spelling mistake. It's nice to have Word pick up the slack. Still, computers are computers and we rely on beautiful writers like you to make sure everything is correct. (Until you get famous enough to employ someone to double check your writing for you.)

Try experiencing failing one of your exams at 16 years of age because you spelt 'analysing' with a 'z'. I kid you not. I had to read out loud an essay and then hand a copy to the people marking me. Analysing was spelt wrong, as was 'colour' and I said 'lieutenant' incorrectly. They told me to try an American Grammar school rather then an English Grammar school because I obviously had no idea of what A Level English Language was actually all about. I rely on Word because spelling isn't my strongest point. I'm terrible really.

I did consider taking Microsoft to court.

ohh lord I loathe the grammar check on Word. I always disable it.
I think that's what kind of started me on my current habit of writing everything in notepad, tho XD;

I think I got fed up with word the time it "corrected" one of my sentences into a grammatically incorrect mish-mash. Then, of course, there are the times it decides to "fix" your words with someone else...

Anyway.

I finished all your fairy-tales, as well as the mother goose stories. XD To say I enjoyed them is an understatement. I did, however, learn that I must never read your stories out of order. ^^: I'm sorry--I should have realized sooner they weren't just put down in any old way!

Now I'm going on to read the Miniseries'. I figure that I can work my way through them with them being long enough for fun but without being too long that I have to stay up latelatelate to finsish the story because I absolutely must (which is, ah, sort of what happened with Kidnapped). I was wondering though, are there any particular ones that you would recommend reading first, over others? ^^; I know it may be silly to ask, but I was just wondering...or perhaps I should read them straight down, if there's an order?
