Doesn't surprise me in the least. I've never cared for Amazon and could never really figure out why some people liked it so much. Back when it was still small it made some really stupid decisions that made much of the Geek world turn their noses up in disgust, and that probably colored my perception of them from that point onward. I don't really even remember what it was anymore, only that I Didn't Like It and I could easily find whatever I might be needing elsewhere with a minimal amount of work. *shrug*
But that's big businesses for you... just look at Microsoft for an example. Did you know you cannot delete Internet Explorer and Outlook? You can only disable them. Blah. Stupid monopolies.
I deleted them both just fine. I only have outlook again because I purposely put it on when I dl'ed Office '07. But before that, I hadn't wanted it, and got rid of it and explorer.
I guess, but I know I sure as fuck deleted them and they never came up when something demanded their presence. But whatever, I am the mortal and you are the elitist.
Yeah, it's mainly only important in that the security holes present in them remain, so you still have to get the security patches MS releases even if you never use the suckers. It actually got Microsoft in trouble a few years back - although on that note, they may have been forced to 'fix' that little issue in newer OSes... can't remember if that came up pre-XP or not. *ponder*
... I think this just means that I am glad I have not published anything myself (or, y'know, at all). -__-;; Why does everything have to be so damn complex and fucking evil? I like Amazon - it's easy to find whatever thing I happen to be looking for and their recommendations make me laugh. But I don't shop a lot and if they're going to be jackasses, I can totally take my almost nonexistent business elsewhere.
Personally, I would love to see Amazon try to pull that crap with Lulu. Why? The guy who runs Lulu use to work for RedHat. Hell, I think he still does. Lulu is a side project for him. He's got enough money and enough friends in the industry to take Amazon to court and win.
I mean seriously, you couldn't get something that screams "MONOPOLY!" louder if you tried.
*sigh* well, I guess that means my currently pending mammoth amazon order will be my last, then. Their "handling fee" was starting to get on my nerves, anyway. $3 handling on a $4 item? In what kind of world does that make sense?
if it wasn't such a hassle to delete the order and reorder it elsewhere, I would. but... *ponders it anyway*
Seriously?!! Are they NUTS!! I spend practically half of my salary there, precisely because i can find books there cheaper than I can find on B&N and everywhere else! And they want to piss of the readers and authors that made the stipid site what it is??Oh Dammit why the hell do people get so fucking GREEDY!?
good fucking grief o___O What a load of shit. I'd be pretty pissed, too, if I was in the business. Or even if I was trying to get something published by a POD company.
Huh. I stopped using Amazon two years ago when they screwed me over. I also go to B&N if I need books online. If they don't have... well, I guess I didn't need it as much as I thought I did.
BTW, Always Together shipped today! I want you to know that I will buy EVERY book you publish... so keep publishing, k?
Knew about it. I can even understand why they're doing it(they make more money if the POD publishers are forced to pay for their listings....and such.) but I only order from there when people give me gift cards for it. Otherwise...I tend to walk into the bookstore(they let me phone in orders even..o.O) or just borrow from a library.
Checking to see if I will make it through spring break to purchase books. I want to so bad, but I'm afraid I won't have money to pay my credit card this month if I do. And I don't want digital copies...paper is so much nicer to read than a screen.
Well, they're gonna be sad when the government steps in and breaks them into several little companies.
That said, I like Amazon so I won't stop using them. I'm already boycotting Unilever so my boycott plate is pretty full. Also (to be a bit selfish) this doesn't really affect me at the moment so I'll probably worry more about it if/when it starts to. It will be interesting to see how it affects Lulu, tho.

Date: 2008-03-30 10:32 pm (UTC)Which is what baffles me. It seems such a stupid thing for Amazon to do.
I will be interested to see how this hits Lulu.
