It's amazing how good food is at restoring one's mood. I almost forgot to tell you guys the snake story.

So Megan's leaving her house, and the cat is acting funny. I turn to glare at it and movement catches my eye - and I realize I'm about two inches away from a snake. So that was Megan's heart attack for the year. Even better, I went to get the broom to sweep it away and by the time I got back it was nearly in the house. Since when do snakes want to go inside?

It disappeared under the house, my dad is currently trying to narrow down to where it might have gone. So that's the snake story.

Oh - I think it was black, yellow and brown. And not a pattern I've ever seen before. Never saw a snake like it before, and at least a foot long. I am clueless, it's not the kind of snake I've seen around here before.

If you don't recognize it, best to assume it's poisonous.

When I would mow the lawn for my parents and find a garter snake, I would catch it and play with it, but they wouldn't let me keep it as a pet.

I would always feel bad for the harmless snakes when my dog would maul them.

Knowing my luck there's whole...what do you call a bunch fo snakes? under my house just waiting until we all fall asleep.

Sounds like fun - i've always wantd a pet snaked but my mom was always like NO WAY IN HELL.

That is horrible. My dogs liked squirrels. Never caught'em though.

I'm almost tempted to say it's a garter (garden? gartner?) snake, but I could be wrong. (I'm one of those incredibely odd people who likes snakes and spiders. Scared the bejeesus out of my mom when I, at the tender age of six, decided to show her my new pets: three worms, one black widow, and a gartner snake that was longer than I was tall. My mom tossed me and the snake outside, stepped on the black widow, and then gave the worms to my brothers for fishing. ;_;)

Garden snakes are green, if it'd been one of those I'dve picked the sucker up and tossed it in the field behind our house.

That is awesome. I don't think I coudl handle a black widow but someday I want a pet snake.

OH MY LORD that gives me the heebie jeebies!!!! Once when my mom was little, she was playing in the lake near her house (in Maine) and she was standing on a rock, and she looked down and there was a nest of water snakes right below her and she flipped her shit. I'm not sure how she got out of the lake after that, but I would've fucking died.

EW EW EW EW EW You need to find a picture of that thing. I always heard that snakes with bright colours were poisonous... I don't deal with insects.

I took a shower with a Black Widow in Costa Rica though... I just stood there in the fucking outhouse and was like, "OH MY GOD OH MY GOD Okay, child, just wash real quick and run into the chicken coup." (that was when I was on 'vacation' with my family)

NAAAAAAAGGGHHH KILL THE SNAKE THAT IS FOUL

Did you know, once at 705--after you'd already headed off to the Big Dick--ma mere found I Don't Know playing with a water moccasin (sp?--or whatever) in the backyard, not that she knew at the time what kind of snake it was? Uncle Henry came over and chopped its head off with a shovel. Then he told us what kind of snake it was.

Ma mere sorta flipped and yelled at I Don't Know for being stupid.

Stupid cat...

Garden snakes may be green, but Garter snakes are brown, black, and yellow. (Mostly yellow) ;-> I used to bring them home all the time. They don't get to be much more than a foot long or so.. Very indigenous to New England.

Sheesh, and when I started reading about this snake I figured it was huge... ya know, three foot at least! But a cute little one footer? Who was probably headed for the house as the giant heat source it was for the poor cold little snakie.

Oh yes, and I highly recommend Ball Pythons as excellent snake pets. If anyone is interested, Rich is considering breeding ours, but only if we have enough takers for a litter.

A foot or so is big for around here. And I would've liked it too except that I wasn't expecting to nearly step on it. REally I was just mostly amused - and I couldn't figure why it was trying to get in the house.

Garden snakes are green,

W-wait . . . Then what was that snake I tried to make into a pet last year? It was dark brown with red and yellow spots all along its underside!

(I've always wanted a pet tarantula, but my family was never open to this idea. So I just got kissing fish instead.)

Heh... You'd love the six foot long Black Racer I found in PA, then... I thought it was length of black hose or something.. Then it started to slither away......

Nice guys, though... they just eat small rodents.

I'll put you on the list for a python. ;->
