Darkover is fun so far ^__^

The only things that have bugged me so far are one author, but I remember said author irritating me last time, as well. So meh.

The other thing that recently popped up was a pretty mean attitude toward fanfiction. I really do not see why writers get so bitchy. I mean, I've learned my lesson on letting people into my cannon, but fanfiction? What's the bloody harm? I really much prefer writers like Rowling, who understand and appreciate that sort of thing, than the snotty set who talk about lawyers and crap. Grow up.

I bought something at the art room ^__^ And I am hoping to buy one more thing, as a present. Also bought my mother some awesome awesome coffee.

The Guest of Honor is Patricia Briggs, which is kind of cool. I like her Mercey Thompson books okay, though parts irritate me - but what about most modern supernatural books do not? I need to learn to shutup, because I'm sure Dwtd has flaws of its own.

Now, write or go troll the dealer's room? Hmm.

Aha, it was funny though. They went on for a bit how you should never write about something you hate or sneer at. But, I guess it's different with me? I don't write from 'that is beneath me and I hate it' POV so much as a "argh, you're fucking ths up and I'm tired of it' POV which is pretty fucking arrogant, but if this con teaches me anything it's that no writer lacks for arrogance - even us shy ones totally overwhelmed by all the real writes running around -__-

But if they get nasty about fanfiction again, I'm going to lose my temper, I swear.

My Ten Cents - Conventions = <3

Oh, wow, you changed your page again. *unexpected and momentarily stunned* That's thing about watching everything from the F-list page, you never see pretty layout changes.

I'm going to be honest, anyway - I really dislike fanfiction. I mean, I don't think I'd get nasty over it like some writers - which is incredibly annoying - but I still just don't like it. For me, if I ever got that famous, I'd just be like, "Look, fanfiction exists, I don't really like it and I don't want people doing it for my stories, but if they do I don't care and please don't ever show it to me. And I'm sure there's good fanfiction out there and good for those people. Yeah." I'm just kind of apathetic in the end.

And I agree. Some writers need to get knocked off their high horses, cause they seem to have forgotten they used to suck-ass at writing. (That's why I keep old stories, to humble myself. And gross myself out cause they're so ridiculously bad)

And on that note, there's going to be or already is a generation of writers who started out with fanfiction, so I think they need to take that into perspective.

I'd say that generation's already here, I started buying the Temeraire books, solely because I trusted the author to tell a decent story since I liked her fanfiction.

There's also 3 Harry Potter fic writers I can think of off the top of my head, 2 published, and another will be soon. She was showing off her cover art recently.

I suspect that'll be a growing trend actually--they come with an audience already built in. A couple of posts on LJ will guarantee that at least some people will be buying the book.

And now that I think about it, all those fic writers signed deals for series instead of just a single book.

Patricia Briggs is so sweet! *_* I met her at a con, and right now I'm insanely jealous you're getting to see her. What other guests are there?

I don't like it when authors come down hard on fanfiction. I am curious about how authors feel about fanart as opposed to fanfiction. It seems like one is More Okay than the other to do, and that seems unfair to me.

I hope you have mucho fun at the con! ^_^

Wow. I wish i had time to go to a con. And as things go, troll the dealers room!! Enjoy it while your there, unless the writing bug bites then well, the muses own soul si XD

as for fanfiction, I've always wondered what they do about published fanfiction in western culture.... you know, all those books that redo/continue Jane Austen's work or how about the gone with the wind sequels? where do you suppose all that fits in.

I've never understood why some author's are bothered by fanfiction. If I were an author I'd be looking for fanfiction of my own work to see what people came up with. I know that at one point Storm Constantine had a website where people could post fics of her work. And Lynn Flewelling commented at Ycon that she might make fanfiction for her own Nightrunner series. I much prefer authors who have that sort of view.

I actually own Patricia Briggs novels and I rather like them (she's not my favorite author but I read her enough that I keep track of all of her books). So this is me being jealous you get to see her *glare*

I so want to go to a writer's con sometime. I have no idea whether there are any near me, though...

As mainly a lurker, I love it when you post that you hate how an author is screwing something up...it means we as readers here will soon get to see something really good out of it come from you!!! I love your stuff. I have some of it on my wish list for Christmas...
