Ahahaha. The new guy apparently quit while I was gone. Am back working 9-6. I laugh. Also, Wednesday is a day of doom. They're packing up my fucking fileroom a week point five early - but we'll still have to go through the crates to pull files -__- All b/c they need my shelves. YOU'RE BUYING A NEW BUILDING, A FEW HUNDRED MORE FOR NEW SHELVES WILL NOT KILL YOU. Srsly.

The girl at work said she would bring me the next two twilight books. She's just...so fucking happy with them, and getting into them. She goes *.* over them the way I do precious few books anymore. It's hard to raz someone so fucking earnest and happy. Though, she was totally miffed (in amused fashion) that I called whathisnuts being a werewolf. She totally did not guess it, heh.

Read this version of Beauty and the Beast

I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it. One, two purple prosey at points for me. All we romance writers get flowery with the language, it's the nature of the beast. But, prune the fucking garden a bit, sheesh.

Two, it felt more like a lecture than a story at points. I got sick of the he's a sodomite, ohnoes!, I got tired of the it's bad to be an ignorant peasant, I got tired of being told ad infinitum the flaws of the beast and beauty.

Also, I just don't like Jean (beauty). He annoyed the fuck out of me. I srsly did not care what happened to him.

It also does not speak well of the story that it was glaringly and painfully obvious where she was stealing straight from the fucking Disney movie. Draw your inspiration, fine. Don't make it so fucking obvious.

All of this I would probably brush aside if the story was taken lightly by the author. But, I come away with a feeling that she wants it to be High Literature and to Teach Something and a good story doesn't have to try that hard to convey it's intent.

I also hate the trouble you have to go through to read the fucking thing. Nothing in it seemed worth the hassle of emailing the author to get her to friend me so I could view it. Though, I will say she's nice enough to set up a guest account for the non-lj'ers.

And I did like the Beast's design. He was cool looking, I like the plant theme, and his vine hair. That being said, he felt a lot like 'I was bad but not really, insert wild temper to make me seem like I have something to learn'. He was...not really consistent, maybe? I dunno.

In sum, it's one of those stories I read straight through, tried to like, tried to convince myself I liked, but ultimately I must concede I leave feeling very 'meh.' But, I've said before and will say again, I'm probably too picky. I'm sure everyone else will love it.

Now to decide what I want for dinner. Chicken, maybe. And salsa. I made my dad's salsa ^___^ My boss loved it, and I saved some for me to eat, so yes. Chicken and salsa.

It's supposed to snow Saturday -__- which means, if it does, I don't know I'll be permitted by Sarah or the state to take my test, which means I'm fucked for work unless I can find someone willing to give me a ride *sigh*

Food now.

Good luck with the weather and the test. And with the work stuff.

Hm, I am looking to forward to eventually reading your new version. Your Beast really is awful. *gleeful smile*

Oh, yeah, there was a new B&B version! I forgot. I agree that the beast in that version is truly pretty evil.

I don't know how anyone could miss it after that ridiculous "folktale" he tells her at the beach

Hmm, Iread that story as well, and wasn't fond of it. Can't really say why, but one thing is I didn't like the fact that he was a plant, I just can't see plants as cuddly :D But like you, I just didn't find it that good, it was an interesting read, but I doubt I will reread it.

Catherine. (not like I do your stories at anyrate :D)

vampires and twilight series

Hey, I remember saying you dislike the "need to feed" that is usually present in vampire stories. I am reading a collection of vamp, werewolf, and witches stories by L.J. Smith called Night World. There are three stories in each book and there are three books.

Anyway, point is they are pretty good stories but I though you might like the reason vampires need to feed in this. Their blood does the whole amazing healing and immortal thing but it cant carry oxygen so they need to feed off of humans so that they dont suffocate. This works until their blood negates all the human blood and then they must feed again,

Just thought that that is at least a reason other than uncontrollable hunger/lust for blood.

That sounds really familiar.

I do know it's crass to reply to these sorts of things, but three of your friends sent me by the way of this, well, they called it a recommendation. ^^;

You have a lot of fair and valid points about the story - the prose is quite purple, I'm now thoroughly embarrassed by most of the preachier, pseudo-communist, power-to-the-homos sections. And yes, it is full of (intentional!) allusions of the Disney version, and the old French version as well, but I know very few people have seen that one. My girlfriend is a huge fan of both, and dared me to write a gay version of them for her as a present, which is the origin of the whole thing. I didn't mean it as High Literature, but of course saying that OUTSIDE the story doesn't change the fact that it gave you that impression within it. I'll keep that in mind while I'm revising it. :)

I'm sorry you found the friends only process troublesome.

I didn't really find the friends only process troublesome. I just don't see the point of stuff like that, honestly. But, I know I'm probably like one of three, so it really doesn't matter. it's not like it kills anything.

I cannot believe three people ran off to tell you about this -_- Now I just sound like a raging bitch. I tend to be unduly harsh, I know it. I did truly love your beast, though. I'm always on the look out for beasts that are not just a giant furry animal. I don't think I mentioned the music either, that was definitely cool.

Anyway, I'm sorry you were told to come here and see. I'm of the school that if authors are going to hear anything bad, it should be from their betas and stuff. After the fact, it just doesn't matter as much.

I am way too asleep to think of anything intelligent to say, minus I should probably learn to be more tactful, seeing as authors keep finding me ^^

Heeey, I read this version! The author,(Rose) is pretty cool.

Anywho, You have a right to put your opinions up. It's your damn journal and you can bitch if you want to. Maybe you should consider putting up a filter so that only the ones you trust not to go squealing can see. You may also consider writing terribly neutral and dry reviews, but where would the fun in that be?

I'm reading it now, and for the most part I like it.
Jean is...I don't know. He goes through cycles for me. I didn't like him in the beginning, too goody goody, and then I liked him for a while, then I didn't...XD

This one silly little thing bothered me though.
"As is the nature of children, she had not noticed the gossip at all, had not realized that her father’s return was unlikely to ever occur."

Maybe I was just observant, but I ALWAYS knew when something was wrong. Maybe I didn't know why, but I knew when things were bad.
I'm not very far a long, but so far I like how it's progressing.
