Questions answered
Jan. 21st, 2009 06:44 pmSome questions someone had about Midnight. I didn't feel like splitting it all up in replies. And I'm sure if one person is shredding it, so are others. Possible spoilers, for those who have not read it (and I will be posting it in chunks, I'm sorry, I simply keep forgetting b/t the worked to death and not sleeping much and writing Bound)
But first, I'm sorry I didn't thought of taking track of the misspelled words I found :( There's 2 or 3 Barr instead of Barra. At a moment (part 2, I'm almost sure, but can't remember when exactly v_v) there was a Neirin instead of a Troyes (the character gives explanations and the way he talks, couldn't be someone else than Troyes...)
My betas and I do the best we can. That being said, I may have used the wrong version when I pdf'ed. I have to give the beta in question a different format, and I thought I saved it over, but may nto have. That being said, Barra's name is a bitch to catch. We do what we can, I'm sorry it wasn't enough. I hate typos, I really do, but no one is perfect, least of all me.
So! My questions: (please bear in mind I didn't read Dance with the devil, just in case we learn more about your vision of vampires in it... Do we learn more about Seth and Ceadda's relationship in it? 'Cause I haven't really like what I began to read on DwtD on your site so I wasn't planning on buying it... hum...)
Reading DwtD does help with the vampires, yes. I don't think I restricted them to night, but I honestly do not remember. I seem to recall I went back and checked, to make certain they could do the day time thing, and I thought they could, but if there's one thing I've learned today it's that I'm often wrong about fuck everything.
1) when they oh so carefully cover Midnight in his tree so he can sleep without being harmed by the sunlight, I was all: what about Ceadda?? He's a vampire! If one should take cover, he should be the one! Not in your world? Does he sparkle too? Sorry, that was mean Have I miss an explanation somewhere about vampires' powers and weaknesses?
My vampires do not sparkle (haha). They're fine in daylight, as I said, to the best of my recollection. Anyway, now that I'm thinking more, the beta who helped me here would have noticed such a thing. She's awesome with details like that, and has caught them before.
2) Ginny and her mother are supposed to sleep till Ceadda wakes them up. Then, he took off without doing so at the end. Well... do we have two sleeping beauties? (or does the distance alternate the power of the spell? Not very practical if one have to be where one's spell are all the time...)
Just not something I spelled out. It's one of those background things he would have done, since it was his magic keeping them asleep, they could pretty much wake up they moment he decided they could, whether he was in the room or not.
3) Midnight doesn't feel Devlin, he fears that's because he's too far away. Well, that's not the case since Devlin is indeed sleeping under their feet. So why doesn't Misnight feel him? I thought Silas' spells prevent him to but... would it affect Barra's nose too? (And Ceadda's nose too, lol) And Troyes special abilities? When the spells are removed (just long enough for Midnight to play solo), shouldn't he be hit by the "I can feel him again" feeling? I think that would be something he notices, since it's about Devlin and he's very very focused on him. I think it shouldn't be something he doesn't notice because he has more important thing in his head, you see what I mean?
I dont' really remember all of my own story, sad to say. The saddest part of what I do is that I write too much, too fast, to even remember all of what I'm doing. But, if I recall correctly, there was a ward in the house that they had to break down, and it would ahve taken them years to do it. The ward kept fuck everything from figuring out there was something in the basement. So long as that ward was in place, Devlin could have been screaming bloody murder and pounding on the floor below and they would not have heard him or noticed until the ward was broken.
That's all I've got for now. If I have more energy later in the week, I'll try to formulate better answers.
