Suikoden III is at an end, it's always kinda a downer when you finally finish a book, game, etc.

But goddamn was the ending worth it. Shite, every ounce of annoyance I went through at moments with building up or hunting down some obscure Star-definitely worth it. But I don't want to spoil anything for anyone that might possibly be happening to play it.

If you get the right number of stars by a certain point (I read this after we finished playing, you have to have 104 before the last strategy battle) you get to go play as the "villians" for all the major points in the game. So not only did I get to play as Luc-who any Suiko fan will know as Leknaat's apprentice, aka a "good guy" in the first two-I got to play as Yuber. Do you get this? He's one of my top fav chars, this mysterious, almost totally random baddie in the first two games. No one knows anything about him, he's just this mysterious guy hired to kick your ass in a few fights, then when his boss starts to lose he disappears. But he's a True Rune bearer (what these games revolve around), and in this game you finally see what True Rune he holds, and confirm the fact that he's not human. Totally badass, omg he fucking rocks. For those that know me, he's officially #2 to Vincent's #1 position.

Back on topic: Not only is Luc the badguy, his (twin?) brother Sasarai actually joins the Stars of Destiny. This is another "what the fuck just happened?" moment. He was a "bad guy" in the second game, Luc went fucking pyscho when Sasarai showed up then. Sasarai is the High Bishop of Holy Harmonia. Harmonia is pretty much the "ultimate evil" in Suikoden. Three games and we still know nothing about that damned country. Except that ol' Sasarai is much cooler than he first appeared, and the Circle Palace is gorgeous.

There are too many good points about this game to go on forever, but I will say the sheer amount of versatility is one of the greatest parts. And a chance to play as the "villians" is such an awesome idea that I can't stand it. Never have I seen the roles of "good" & "bad" so ambigously portrayed. It's always been an especially important part of Suikoden, but this game did it especially well. I mean it - by the end you're only killing Luc b/c the game gives you no choice. Hell, my brother and I werer starting to side with him.

Not to mention the sheer number of True Runes that you get to play with. Normally the hero's group has one True Rune, but this game you control four of the bastards by the end. If you've never played these games, you have no idea how cool this is."

Of course, rather than the game answering all our questions, it answered about a fourth of them and then gave you about 500 new ones. And I still don't know who or what Yuber is. I know only that he's not human, posseses the Eight-Devil True Rune and has different colored eyes (you could never see his face in the first two, so this is cool). Aggravation.

I know, I'm pathetic. But honestly, games this good are fuckin' nonexistant these days.
