If I'm about to offend someone, I apologize. This doesn't apply to all scanlators, just several of them.

If scanlators hate what they're doing so much, why do they do it? Me? I love scanlations b/c I honestly do use them to find mangakas that I like - and I'm poor. But half the shit I do buy (and am going to buy, my shopping cart at Sasuga is ridiculous) is from scanlations.

But I am sick and fucking tired of scanlators making it perfectly clear that they hold most of their audience (or whatever) in complete and utter contempt - because we're all apparently fucking morons. They bitch and moan about the people that don't read the irc guide, who don't read warnings - what makes them think they're going to read their rantfests if they don't read anything else? So all they do is wind up pissing off those of us that do actually try to cooperate. Yay, mission accomplished.

They also get pissy about IRC. I tried it once, didn't honestly like it - and there's this looming negativity from the scanlators. I swear all their guides begin "first step in leeching in this dumbass" and end with "congrats, moron. you can now leech like everyone else." It's the the emphasis on leeching that bugs me - they sound like they don't even really want us there. No one is making them do it.

Whatever. I should probably be less touchy. But if you hate something that much just stop doing it. Last I checked no one was making them do it and to be honest I don't need them to find manga worth buying more than they need their damned donations to keep running.

I find myself offended by your use of the word "mission." Also, "hold" and "b/c" to a lesser extent. Although, I do not know why.

similar, but slightly different, are the providers of MP3s - the little chippies who set up music rotation sites and then at some point explode with fury at the 'leeches' who are costing them an arm and a leg (?) by stealing their bandwidth.

*koff*

forgetting, of course that the rotation-site-mistress doesn't own the rights to distribute the music, and is using a free server, and on and on; what it seems to actually boil down to is they're hoping to become famous, somehow, in their own guestbook and get pissy when that goal never materializes.

>_>
<_< ja, you're rockin' my socks this week. OH - i'm not a random stalker, i've been seeing your stuff on the ycon_chat/friends page. cuz.. i'm.. stalking THAT page. ^_^;;;;;

lol.

never had to deal with the mp3 ones, but from what you say they sound pretty aggravating.

I seem to be on a roll with bitching this week - glad it's amusing someone, hee.

"Leech" is just a general web term that basically means that the person downloads & never uploads. I believe that it mainly started with people who download from FTP sites & never upload anything to them. IRC was just the next step, since people are distributing there more nowadays. I've seen it used by fan subbers, scanlators, & warez groups, so it's used a lot. "Leech" is part of the lingo like "WTF" & "TMI."

I realize it's just the term, it's mostly the way they say it that bugs me.

bwahahaha! Lo' it's just the old fansubs issue with a new medium. And they can all go die just like the fansubbers did.
