So near as I can tell, my family is doing all right settling into their new house. I think my dad is even attempting to buy a new vehicle - which I hope works out, they desperately need a new car.

Sadly our dogs are apparently gone. The woman said they could stay unless they barked (wtf?) so the dogs are gone now and apparently most of the cats aren't far behind. It makes me sad that I won't see all my kitties when I go home. But mine is waiting for me to fetch her and bring her to Cinci with me.

Apparently my youngest sister called the other night. She's been in Spain the past several days (I think she comes back the end of this week? Not sure...) and apparently she went to a bull fight and saw four bulls slaughter. It really upset her, from what I've been told. I feel so bad! She knew she wouldn't like it, but she went as part of the whole Spain exp. and wound up crying there and back at the hotel. (Oh! And let's discuss the men, who apparently at the last instant decided not to go and stayed at the hotel like a lot of wusses while the women went to see it. All talk.)

I would've thought respectable high school boys would have used the chance to both look tough and comfort the ladies. *tsk tsk* what is this world coming to?

They're weak.
What's worse. They let it show.

There is no reason to degrade the men for their lack of participation in the bull fight. That's just senseless insulting, if not outright hateful. What good does it do to jest the men who were at least brave enough to show some shadow of their discomfort and avoid paying homage to the senseless slaughter of the bulls.

In fact, what of the women who did go? Were they just not wussie enough to say no? Or were they in fact blood thirsty enough to support such a cruel event as Bull Fighting. I would be more concerned at their true character.

Yeah, the men may have ditched out, but there's no sin in discretion. They did not want to go, and so they did not go. Simple logic in that, and no reason for criticism.

Dude, I wasn't serious! I honestly just meant it as a wisecrack, I swear it. I honesty don't think anyone should have gone, in fact I'm amazed the teacher lets them go to something that violent.

But I also hold with studying every aspect of a culture. Not watching the bull fight is like selectively ignoring the nonpretty parts of a culture. Fine, they did't want to go. Fair enough, their call. But I think they should have gone for a bit.

I didn't mean to offend bro, my commetn really was mostly a joke - Sammie and I were making cracks last night, it was mostly intended for her. My apologies.

I would have brought a grill & started yelling "I WANT MEAT!"

Most tailgate parties are before the "game." For bullfighting, it's after the "game." ^_^

Corrida del Toros

The Corrida del Toros can be really upsetting. I thought I was going to vomit when I went in Granada, but it turned out to be one of the best things I ever did. It was really a cultural high point (aside from the amazing Flamenco and the Alhambra which I pretty much had multiple orgasms in). I can totally understand that the Corrida del Toros was upsetting for your sister... I had a blast, but I'm a sick bitch. Did they give them any background on it before they went to the fight? The bull (as sick as this sounds) is killed quickly, though possibly not in the most humane manner, and sometimes the matador gets mauled in the process (VIVA EL TORO!)... it sucks if the matador sucks, b/c then it takes longer. The meat from the bull is given to orphanages and the matador has to kill the bull in a certain amount of time, or else the bull is spared. There are laws put into place to protect the bull. I know it's hard, but it is a ritual... the best thing to do is to look at it from a cultural standpoint. Anyways, there are a lot more things to Spain than bullfighting... where was she in Spain? Madrid? El Juli mi matador favorito. :)

Its the sister that went to Spain. I was in Madrid when I went, the last night there. They did tell us the bull was eaten, but not given to orphans. Also, maybe you saw different, but this bull wasn't killed quick. He had two spears, and six hooks stuck in him before he died and only one matador hit his heart with the sword. The other three stabbed it three times before giving up and severing the spinal cord with a dagger. Then we watched the bull twitch twice out of those three because they didn't hit it right and had to wiggle the knife. I'm not saying this to dispute what you said, just to let you know how it went with me. I would also like to say that I could, and can, see what people like about them. The matador is amazing...I just can't stand the sight of the bull pointlessly and futilely chasing a strip of clothe with blood running down his sides and death waiting just ahead. Again, I'm not trying to discredit of demean you, just felt I had to respond.
