For [livejournal.com profile] mailechan, I am sorry this is late. It isn't much, just a snippet, but I hope you like it anyway. When I first read your requests, my immediate answer was "Hee! Too easy!"

Now must work on a birthday fic for someone else. And a bunch of other stuff. "Confound it all, I love it though!"

But first! Sleep! *falls down dead*

Peanut Butter and Chocolate

Sebastion loved the city. No matter where he went, what he saw, what he did. Made no difference the fights he got into, the fact that he loathed certain people and places in the city. He still loved it. Despite it all, it was home.

Still, there was a lot to be said for the middle of nowhere. More than once in his life, being nowhere had brought him a great deal of good. Amber beads clacked against porcelain as he dipped his spoon into the bowl on the table he sat at.

There was a lot to be said for ice cream too. Especially chocolate. He didn't care how old he got; he was never too old for ice cream.

The middle of nowhere was cool, but not too cool, tonight. Would probably be warmer if he wasn't steadily working his way through a good fourth of the carton of ice cream they'd bought earlier. Middle of summer, it had taken the sun forever to set. Eleven o'clock now and it hadn't been down long.

Long enough though that the stars were out. That was one thing the city didn't have - stars. No way could they ever get past neon and fluorescent.

The city also lacked peace and quiet. He missed the noise a bit. Even after all their vacations here, he couldn't really adjust to the dead silence. Well, dead silence and crickets. They sort of were the same thing out here. He'd only grown used to it in high school because who wouldn't after two years? Then he'd fallen out of it when he and Klause went off to college.

Which had made city life seem quiet. Good grief, he hadn't thought about those four years in a long time. "Bah," he muttered around another mouthful of ice cream.

Those had been interesting. He wondered if there was a man alive who ever got through college without causing all manner of mayhem. Probably not. Especially not when one kept company with the men he did. Klause and Regan had been nothing but trouble every single time they'd come to visit him. Not that he'd ever encouraged him. Sebastion snorted.

Especially senior year. He could really use that sort of energy these days. Not that he was doing too badly for thirty-five. But he wasn't quite as spry as in the old days.

Well, that was okay. What he lacked in youthful energy he made up for in a tidy collection of dirty tricks. Age and wisdom and all that. And if they all thought he was troublesome when he was young?

He chuckled into his ice cream. Klause was fond of saying that the older he got, the better Bastion was at finding new levels trouble to get in to. Sebastion really couldn't argue the point. Especially seeing as yesterday Lawrence had officially stopped speaking to him.

The first time Law had given him a birthday present. Albeit a week early, but hey.

And speaking of trouble, it seemed they were being left alone. Maybe his last tussle with that damned photographer had actually done some good. He was almost disappointed - he'd planned out precisely how he was going to manage to drown a few of them in the pool.

Every summer since they'd finished college he and Klause had come here for vacation. Two weeks in the old, ugly house that they somehow had grown fond of. Sebastion rolled his eyes. You'd think after all these years they could have bothered to make it less ugly. Especially with his lover being an expert at that sort of thing. "Bah."

Of course Klause was too busy being run ragged with clients to have time to fix up the House of Ugly. He half wondered sometimes if Klause kept it ugly on purpose. He half wondered if he did it himself. It was a refreshing change from Paradise, and his prissy offices in the city.

Whatever. Didn't matter. What did matter was that they were in the house, three days into their vacation, the stars were gorgeous, he was almost out of ice cream and his lover was missing.

Well, that was easy enough to remedy. There was more ice cream in the freezer. Smiling to himself, Sebastion rose and wandered with bowl in hand to the kitchen.

Sure enough, the man was in the kitchen.

No matter how old they got, Klause was a dedicated night owl. He'd fallen asleep for most of the afternoon because he'd been up really late the night before, which meant he'd be up well into morning now. And make Sebastion stay up with him.
Well, that was okay. The only things about Klause that had changed over the years were the addition of a few wrinkles and a fine-tuning of all that things that had ever made it impossible for Bastion to resist him on anything.

He mock-frowned at his lover, who was seated at the island in the middle of the kitchen, eating a sandwich. "There you are. I was beginning to think you'd run off."

"Run off where?" Klause asked even as he bit into his snack.

Sebastion shrugged, "How the hell should I know? I don't keep up with your assignations."

Klause laughed, nearly choking on the bite he was still chewing. "Assignations, huh? I guess that's what I must be doing during your ongoing affair with your secretary."

"Could we not bring that up again?"

"Well don't accuse me of running off for assignations."

"Bah." Sebastion wandered toward the freezer.

"You've already eaten a third of the carton! Leave some for the rest of us."

"Bah," Bastion repeated, and plunked the carton down on the island next to Klause's plate. He was impeded in the process of refilling his bowl when Klause latched onto his neck and drug him down for a kiss. Sebastion returned it without hesitation, bracing himself on the counter and running his free hand through Klause's hair.

"You taste like peanut butter," he said as he pulled away.

Klause grinned and licked his lips, "Well you taste like chocolate, so I guess we're a matched set."

"Like we didn't already know that." Sebastion rolled his eyes and put the now half-empty carton back in the freezer. "Want to come watch the stars? Or you going to stay here?"

"Stars. Planned to join you, just wanted a snack first. Can't get you naked if I don't have my strength up."

Rolling his eyes again and hiding a smile, Sebastion swatted him lightly and headed for the backyard. "Teenager"

Klause just grinned and rose to follow him out, eyes twinkling. "Old man."

"Country bumpkin."

"Rich snot."

"Ass."

"Troublemaker."

oh, so sweet. I adore those boys (even though I suppose they are properly men now... Bah) Thanks, it was wonderful to see them again, years later and still cute and wonderful and happy.

And I am surprised it took him that long to finally piss Law off that much.

Love and Flowers,
Jo

All I can picture is two men in their late 50's when reading this....are old men bishy?

Also, with all the "bah"ing, is one of those modeled after our own Hayama?

lol

You actually read it?!

Hee, some old men can be bishie. But these two aren't that old here.

Actually, it's taken from my brother.

that kinda makes it more freaky than it being Hayama.

I can see where it might seem disturbing. But seriously, I just wanted to Bastion to have some little thing he said that showed he was annoyed, but not half annoyed as he seemed. My brother has this cute way of going "bah" whenever he's disgusted with something, and it struck me as perfect.

Just wait, I'm sure something of you will show up at some point in something I write. In fact now I may have to do it on purpose.

*blinks* I didn't comment on this? But, but, I was so sure I did! (Okay, no more cold medicine for me...)

Squeee!!! *flying tackle glomps* I'm in love with Bastion. And I love that he and Klause come back to the House of Ugly to relax. (I loved the reasoning behind why the house stays ugly too. ^-^) So, so cute!!

And <<<<<3333 those last five lines of dialogue!!! *glomps you some more* You rock the world, you do. ^______^
