It's so much fun, especially when you get distracted.

We've gone from whips to bullwhips specifically then wandered over to cat o'nine tails. Reading on that is rather interesting.

And I've established that Brits were inordinately fond of punishing misbehaving boys by spanking/caning/flogging their underage bottoms.

Take that as you will.

*Edit*

Modern cattle and horse ranchers in the US rarely use a whip (helicopters are more effective)

*cracks up* I hadn't realized the helicopter was an officially cowboy tool.

And no I'm not telling why I'm researching whips. Suffice to say you'd better hope I do all three LG stories for nano, else you won't see why for a loooooooong time.

Cosby was hilarious. There were a couple of moments I thought he was going to go more lecture than comedy, but he did all right. Freakin' hilarious. Man, I thought I could tear about bible stories when I got going...my Fall of Lucifer in Ebonics has nothing on the Cosby version of Adam and Eve. That was beautiful.

Aaaand my generally lousy fucking luck (I've got the kind where everyone around you wins stuff and you're always stuck alone with your losing tickets, wishing you had a hole to crawl into to hide your misery) for once didn't hold. Torquere ran a contest for a bracelet, and it sounded pretty so I thought "can't hurt."

All I had to do was find a cheezy pun in the new birthstone story and be the first to email it to the author. And I actually did! Heh, the pun was "Not much can beat Seoul food" and now the pretty bracelet is mine! ^__^ And the story is Tuesday's Rubies by CB Potts. Of the Birthstone series, I like it best so far. It could actually stand to be a longer story, I hope Potts considers it somewhere down the road.

Oddly enough, I was happier that someone noticed my perfume tonight. Alas, it was a married man ^_~ but I was happy all the same.

Completely unrelated, I love this song. One of my fav Aerosmith songs, a fav song period, and I was listening to it when Harem started coming together.

And I only post them publically b/c I'm sure there are people who can help (I may also for once actually use a question comm, but I'm never sure if what I'm asking is appropriate - in the sense that I could have found the answers myself instead of harassing the comm).

I think a bullwhip is what I'll be needing, but I had hoped to give the story a winter setting and sadly if the main char is going to use a whip (and it's something I badly want to keep in the story, and sort of crucial to a small but relevant aspect of said story) then I don't think that will be possible, as whips + wet = bad and winter is def wet.

Also need to know about maintence, difficulty of learning/using, what it's like to use one, esp. in tense situations (and Certain Persons can stop *smirking* b/c I don't mean that kind of tension ^_~), and...shoot, there was something else.

Mostly just what it's like to really use one. Not Indian Jones style either, though out of pure curiosity I'd like to know just how far fetched all that is. My char is using it for the sound, as is intended, not to snag women and such -- though I'm not crossing the possibilty of iniflicting injury off the list. This story is still far from fleshed out.

So I need to research:

*maintence/repair
*difficulty of use, esp. under high stress
*if there is anyway at all possible I could whip + snow. B/c that would be idea, but I can nix the snow if necessary
