I decided my original entry was too bitchy, and that I didn't like it. Let's talk about something more amusing.
My mother actually read my story Treasure a couple weeks ago and despite the "boy/boy stuff," she said it was extremely well written. This made me happy. Today she was...doing something, I think making cd's or whatnot...anyway somehow, don't ask me, another of my stories wound up on the disk she was putting her music on. She thought it was something else at first, and was reading it out of curiosity (I think she thought it was something written by someone on her cd? who knows.) Anyway, she said that she had thought it was "something professional" and didn't realize it was mine until she came to a part that mentioned an orange cat, upon which she realized I had written it (because I'd asked her and my sister to help me give the cat a name. I picked one later, but they don't like. they're still trying to come up with a 'better' one).
the point of this story was that my mom was getting on me for like ten minutes to "work on getting it published" and "don't waste it on the internet."
I'm not trying to brag - I just thought it was really funny given that the story she was reading is most definitely not publish-worthy, and that it was slash on top of that (my mom is hard core southern baptist, so you can imagine her stance on yaoi and the like). Not to mention I don't consider posting my stories online as 'wasting them on the internet.' that's ridiculous, it bothered me she said that.
I'm almost done with the first part, if anyone cares. She was readign the first story from Unequal Children. It should be ready for my plans for the 13th. Ah, those plans are coming along nicely...

Homecoming
Date: 2003-09-25 12:51 pm (UTC)God I need to write more. I am a loser English major who can't write to save her life right now. ::bangs head on desk::
Congrats on the motherly props, though... even though she can't tell the difference between "publishable" and "not"... heh heh.
Re: Homecoming
Date: 2003-09-25 03:11 pm (UTC)And it's not that she can't tell - I just think the story is a little awkward to publish and all. I mean, my main chars are Jekyll and Hyde.
Re: Homecoming
Date: 2003-09-25 08:00 pm (UTC)And I see your point... hehe.
Cool~~ XD
Date: 2003-09-25 03:31 pm (UTC)I did read Treaure 4, though, I think. I thought it was great and had a "professional" writer grade to it, too. ^.^
But that's just really awesome that your mom liked a slash you wrote! *LOL* XD
If it's a fanfic and that's the only reason why you think you can't get it published, you can always change the character names.
No one will ever know. XD

Date: 2003-09-26 10:45 am (UTC)Waste Was Not an Ill Chosen Word.
Date: 2003-09-26 03:58 pm (UTC)Just scroll a few search engines. Most fan fiction sights fall into oblivion within weeks (though that is the course of most any internet site) and the ones that do stay up are better stocked with less then desirable works. Not to mention the number of stories that never finish despite their potential.
Anyway, I think I'm losing you, the point is, the internet is a good place to easily get your stories read and get pleasant feedback, but by no means will it take your writing beyond a hobby. And I assume mother has recognized that your writing, just like Samantha's, has the potential to go beyond a hobby.
At least that is my opinion.

Date: 2003-09-26 08:23 pm (UTC)I appreciate every thing you had to say, you make excellent points. I'm flattered you believe my writing could go beyond a mere hobby.
I'm afraid I was gaping at the computer when you said "just like samantha's." Would I get an answer if I were to ask who you are?

Date: 2003-09-27 03:05 am (UTC)we're all addicted to books and whatnot, I guess writing is some sort of off shoot of that? that or none of us have a life.

Date: 2003-09-27 03:44 am (UTC)Odd . . .
Re: Waste Was Not an Ill Chosen Word.
Date: 2003-09-27 03:57 am (UTC)however I do agree that you have an affinity for criticism, darling brother.
p.s. I had no idea you even read my journal. does this mean I should avoid calling you names and such? 'cause that would spoil a lot of my fun.
