Positive stuffs
Mar. 24th, 2005 08:27 pmSince I so often bitch about work, I think for once I'll list some good things.
I've said before I love being able to wander around town. From the moment I started at FBT, I wanted the runner job. I just figured I'd never get it. Then I did. I'm sure in a few years I'll start to hate my life, since that seems to be what happens to everyone, but for now I like it.
I also like knowing various random persons. Like the Fedex woman I see on her route occasionally, or the two (one really hot...) UPS guys I'm always being a smartass with. I like chatting with our mail guy, and getting to know the random secretaries around the city because I deliver there so often. Or like, I ran into our DHL guy the other day delivering a package to another building. He went ahead and gave me our stuff right there, so he wouldn't have to go into our building (which is a real pain for delivery guys. the building is MAD STRICT).It's so cool knowing like, what, two dozen different people? just casually. Or like bumping into other runners, saying hey and chatting simply because we have the same job and know what we go through. Simple comraderie. Even the people in the courthouses are starting to recognize me.
It's also insanely funny how casually we're treated. Like I had to go to the Kroger building today to pick up AN INCREDIBLY OMFG GOD IMPORTANT package...walked up to the reception desk, grabbed the envelope and left. The receptionist was too busy chatting to even see me. Seriously, it happens all the time. Makes me wonder what would happen if a random stranger decided it would be fun to steal one of the envelopes just sitting out. If I really really wanted, it wouldn't be hard at all to go just go around grabbbing random packages.
And for all that the lawyers I work for treat me like shit, the people I see out running are 9/10 really really nice. Because they know what it's like, they know the routine. Except for the occasional scuzzbucket (like the grandpa at the Fed Buildling who wanted to know if I'd like for him to give me his number -_-;;), it's fun to roam around delivering and retrieving IMPORTANT PACKAGE O'DOOM.
Also. Being a footrunner you learn every single shortcut in existence. *grin* You also learn every longcut.
