b/c I need a break
Apr. 12th, 2005 04:04 pmI know nothing about sports. It probably shows. And it was written really fast, so pardon the errors. Chars don't belong to me.
"Why are you always listening to this?" Calvin frowned at the radio. "You don't even like sports."
The furious clacking at the keyboard paused as Jason stopped typing to look at him. "Huh?" He blinked. "Oh. The radio. The DJ amuses me."
"Huh." Calvin went back to his sketching as Jason resumed typing. A few minutes later he looked up again. "He's not that funny."
Jason laughed but continued typing. He finished with a flourish a couple of minutes later, spinning his chair around to face Calvin. "I didn't say he was funny. I said he amused me."
"Aren't they the same thing in this case?"
"Hand me the phone," Jason said in reply.
On the radio, the dj had reached the discussion part of his show, inviting people to call and voice their opinion on last night's game.
Calvin tossed the phone across the room, laughing when Jason nearly fell out of his chair trying to catch it.
"Can't you throw?" Jason asked.
"Can't you catch?" Calvin responded. They shared a grin, then Jason dialed the radio station.
Calvin watched him, "Call often?"
"Nah, just every now and then. If I did it all the time, it wouldn't be funny."
"Good evening and thank you for calling."
"Yes," Jason said. "I wanted to say I thought Marley's touchdown was just awful."
There was a pause. "We're discussing baseball, sir."
Jason grinned and covered the mouthpiece. "Looks like I'm busted already." He spoke into the phone again. "Oh. I mean he made a lousy goal then."
"Jason," the dj was obviously speaking through clenched teeth. "We're discussing baseball."
"Isn't that the one they play on ice?"
"That's hockey."
"Oh. So which one has the touchdowns?"
"That's football."
"So which one is baseball?"
"The one where they hit the ball with a bat."
"That's not croquet?"
Calvin was laughing loudly, listening to Jason torture the dj.
"It seems we've somehow lost our caller," the dj said abruptly as Jason jerked the phone from his ear.
He grinned at Calvin, "He hung up on me. They do that a lot. I'm always surprised it takes them that long." He held up the phone, "Wait for it..."
On the radio, the show had cut to a commercial break.
Jason's phone rang. "Hello?" Jason asked brightly. "What are you talking about? I've been writing code all afternoon. I don't even like sports." He laughed, "So go ahead and tell her."
He hung up the phone and threw it into his armchair, then plopped down on the couch beside Calvin.
Calvin shook his head, still laughing. "Friend or family?"
Jason grinned, "My brother Peter."

Date: 2005-04-12 11:19 pm (UTC)I actually know someone who is a local DJ. All his friends would call in and do stuff like that. Only most times they never made it on the air. ^_^;;
