idiots all of them
Oct. 25th, 2003 12:00 amEveryone knows I work at a pizza place, lord knows I bitch about it enough. Friday nights are what we frequently describe as hell for obvious reasons. But to emphasize the point, let me desribe a few things to you.
We have three pizza ovens, they're all set to 500 degrees. Most nights only one is on, busier nights we might run the second for a little while. Fridays we run all three. Try being the poor fool that has to either make enough pizzas to fill three ovens or the sucker that has to take them out at the other end. These are hard jobs, not just anyone can do them. Not only do they take a bit more training than most other jobs, you have to start with intelligence, coordination and the ability to multi-task. Most natives of Stupidville posses none of these traits.
Every underdog in the store resents those of us that "get to do the real jobs" while they're stuck doing "the crappy jobs." Those of us described as "lucky" inform the morons that they have no idea what they're talking about. Who the hell enjoys making pizza after pizza for six hours straight? Who the hell enjoys keeping track of all the food pouring out of three 500 degree ovens for six hours straight? No one. Ask any "lucky" person and they will tell you that they would kill to be "stuck" in the back all night. Give me a lackey job any day, "lucky" is just another way of saying "the head manager suckered me into being an assistant manager." Granted, there is a certain amount of (albeit stupid) pride in being one of maybe three people trusted to handle either of these two positions on the busiest night of the week, but we'd still prefer to be lackeys again.
Besides, you don't get to the Front (ovens, make-line, counters) when it takes three people to do what I can do in a third of the time it takes them. Sorry, you don't get the "glory" jobs unless you can hack the easy stuff. Every "lucky" person in the store started at the bottom and worked their way up. That's how it works, no exceptions.
Sorry, this tirade has been on my mind a lot lately. It needed writing before it would leave me head. I hate stupid people.
