Do you know quickly I'd give up my plans for grad school and everything if I thought I could live off my writing? Growing up being a professional writer was like my dark secret growing up - the one I didn't think I could ever accomplish.

I only think of it because more and more I'm seeing people who are starting their own small publishing things. I'd love to do something like that, but I don't know that I have the accument to do it. That and I'm not certain my writing is quite that caliber - I think it could be, someday. But right not it's not, and I'd feel really bad just suddenly charging people to read my stuff (though if in some alternate universe I did do it, my lj buddies would be exempt b/c more than anyone you've encourage me in my writing).

I only thought of it b/c I'm moving my website, and converting each of my stories to an lj. As much as I like the academic world and all, I'd kill to just live on my writing. Ah, to dream.

Here's the deal. You go to graduate school, you write academic crap for awhile and write other stuff on the side... get your ass published, endow a chair for me in Middle Eastern Studies (I'll allow you to name it after Commins if you'll think that's funny) and live happily ever after. :)

Sounds like a deal to me Queen. Besides, I could never give up my plans for Take Over Dickinson - and you still owe me an EAS Chair anyway.
