Oct. 18th, 2005 10:11 pmQuick and sloppy, because it's bedtime. Totally substance-lacking, but it amused me enough to write. G'night!
Parks were his favorite place to eat. Every now and then a movie theatre was fun. His parents preferred restaurants, but he tended to think them too conspicuous for eating. No, parks were definitely the way to go. A hundred thousand different things went on at a park. Nobody looked askance unless you were there too early or too late – and Zach had always kept normal hours so that wasn’t a problem.
He breathed in the fresh air and let it out with a happy sigh. The sun was sinking but still high enough to offer plenty of light. Early evening, the heat of the day just starting to cool. Kids laughing, playing ball. Couples buying ice cream for dessert before linking hand to stroll off the beaten path for a different type of after dinner treat.
And plenty of single people; women waiting, men wandering, all ages and types.
Zach brushed a strand of hair from his cheek and cast his gaze about, searching for something appetizing. He ignored the various looks sent his way. Vampires were literally made to attract; so much easier, scholars posed, than claws and all that mess.
A young man with short, curly strawberry blonde hair made him pause. Surely not more than twenty-one. His skin was tanned gold, eyes a pretty shade of caramel. Zach looked at him.
Usually shy, the boy suddenly found he was feeling bold. Grabbing his courier bag, he strode over to the tall, drop-dead gorgeous man with hair that stopped just short of his ass. “Hi,” he said.
“Good evening,” the young man – surely he had to be about his own age? Though suddenly he realized it was sort of hard to tell. But in the next moment the dark-haired stranger was holding out a hand and wow if it didn’t tingle when they shook hands.
He suddenly felt as though he were dreaming, almost watching from afar as he chatted and talked, and agreed to walk through the park. What could be the harm?
Zach smiled, genuinely charmed by the young boy he’d selected. When he offered his best wishes for the boy’s future plans, he realized he meant it.
The sun was nearly set as they wove through the more recessed parts of the weaving walking path set out by the park maintainers. A gentle nudge was all it took to guide the boy into the trees, just far to go unseen without alarming him – though he looked as though he were perfectly content to remain in his dazed state.
Softly Zach stroked his cheek and drew the boy close…lips feathering across his jaw before dipping to his throat. His fangs stung only a bit, the boy’s senses completely dulled by the dazed state into which he’d been placed.
Zach hummed in pleasure at the first taste, for it was as light and sweet as he’d known it would be. A healthy one, this boy. Perhaps he’d make a repeat visit sometime. Everyone restaurant had its regulars, yes?
Smiling as he pulled away, Zach kissed the boy’s cheek softly then turned him gently back toward the path. “Find your way home, lovely boy.” He drew his finger across the boy’s forehead. “Remember a pleasant evening, nothing more.”
The boy wandered away. Zach watched him go, then leaned back against the tree and sighed softly.
Leaves rustled from a nearby tree, and a large black shadow landed gracefully on the ground. The shadow held out its arms. Zach walked eagerly into them, reaching up to take a kiss. “Good evening, my lover.”
“Enjoy your meal?” Doug asked with a grin. His mismatched eyes glowed in the rapidly increasing dark. He licked Zach’s lips, then kissed him again, long and slow, as if savoring a meal of his own.
“Of course,” Zach said when he was released. “This is my favorite place to dine in the whole city.”
“I could tell.” Doug winked. “Ready to go home, or did you want to stop for dessert?”
Zach reached up to wrap his arms around Doug’s neck, leaving his own feet barely able to touch the ground. “I think I’d prefer if the dessert took me home.”
“As you command,” Doug said with a laugh, and they vanished.
