Am I the only one who writes about vampires not suffering from a DEEP HORRIBLE UNQUENCHABLE HUNGER. Honestly, it's not that goddamn hard. If humans like being humans, and cats like being cats, and bugs like being bugs...why should it always be a OH WOE IS ME I AM CURSED for vampires? Can't they...I dunno...be more like Ruthven? >_> Yes, okay, I'll be quiet now. Author should not stroke her own ego...

Just a coupla stories to fnish and then it's back to Embrace, if only b/c that's the only that keeps me from attacking every vampire story for which I so much as read a summary >_> This obsession with hating vampires cannot be healthy.

I need to go to bed, but should be writing. ARGH ARGH ARGH.

I think it's because they're so EASY to make angst. I mean, really.

*blinks* Although you're right, I think my vampire is kind of sad and angsty and lonely...

...Not to mention that he seems to have a thing for dragons. One dragon lover in the past, fine, but now a second one? Jen, you big sap.

Hm. I think I've read a romance novel that didn't have that "I HATE BEING A VAMP" vibe though. Um... By Lyndsay Sands, or something? Her vampires were actually pretty much integrated into normal everyday functioning in their own way. It was sort of cute.

I don't quite know if you remember me, from an e-mail I sent you a while ago, or got my comment on a previous post, since lj is evil and may have eaten it, but I feel obliged to comment on this.

I am...not entirely fond of vampires, and especially not fond of the vampires in today's pop culture. At one point in time I was, but as you have mentioned, their "oh-woe-is-me" attitude threw me off.

So imagine my joy at reading Embrace. At first I was a bit perturbed, not wanting to get into another stereotypically angsty vampire story, but I read on and was rather more than pleasantly surprised. In fact, I was addicted and have been thirsting for more since.

So stroke your own ego all you like, you richly deserve it, and if it keeps you writing beautiful, masterfully artistic stories, then I have no complaint. And certainly you deserve praise for being the only person I've ever known who can write of a vampire who is not overly angsty or overly prideful and vain (my other greivance with vampires in popular fiction)

^_^ I think I did get your other comment, and was unable to formulate a reply that seemed suitable. I'm glad you approve of Embrace, it's reassuring to hear it from a nonfan who isn't writing it!

I admit I gave it a bit of a cliche setting, but it suited the flowers and I wanted to thwart the stereotypes on their own ground? *sheepish*

Heh. We'll see if I can keep it up. Thank you very much!

Vampires are the ultimate goths. Lords of the Night, Harbingers o' Doom. Pale, full moons, blood, night, satan, death and undeath, and by default not exactly in accord with the rest of the waking world.

Also they sleep in coffins.

But you figure, even we lesser mortals all have different personality types. Why so not vamps, right? I like your vampires. I'm all for the angst, but not the eternal despair of the nevereding darkness within my heart. X_x

I'm done now.

eternal despair of the nevereding darkness within my heart

I think I saw that on ff.net

You just like the nonvampire couple. I need to write a bad!vampire story to put on the shelf beside Prisoner of the Heart. Ruthven can be, hmmm...the bastard son of the long lost vampire king or something. Aubrey can be a human prince, and by uniting they Save the World! Who gets to be the dark elf vampire?

...Yeah it's bedtime.

Point.

Don't forget teh smexy half-breed vampire hunting fighting not only the evil dark ones but also his true self--the darkness within his own heart.

Stregoni? Cause then he could have teh whole angsty 'i used to be a doctore - I healed people *weeps - manly - into pillow*

You're pretty good at this. I guess this mean Carmilla has to be turned,in desperation to heal herself, and becomes the Ultimate Evil! who decies to stop being cute and put on someting slinky and red.

You are really way too good at this. Oh, god how I am supposed to write it now when all I can see is Vixen!Carmilla with Evil Vines O'Doom sucking the life out of the sudden multitude of completely random visitors and lost wanderers.

Don't forget the dramatic graveyard scene. Where all dark truths are revealed. And the semi-epic battle--precursor to the epic battle which will take place in the dark manor whilst the roses rage agains the windows and shatter the very foundations upon which the entire structure resides.

Or something.

Vampires are kinda 'eh' for me. I've read a handful of good stories, and seldom manage to wade through the bad ones. Liked Rice's Lestat, mainly cause he's so bizarre it's funny, but the rest of hers need to be shot.

I do adore your vampires in Midsummer, though. ^.^ About die laughing every time they come on the scene. Yup.

And now that I've completely forgotten everything that I wanted to say here, I'm going to bed. And rejoice in the smugness that is me siccing the Heater-Restarting-Duty on my brother. ^________^

The Midsummer are my favorite, for all that Embrace does amuse me. they're ridiculous amounts of fun to write. ^_^

Hope you slept well!

You do realize you are tempting me to write Sci-fi vampire stories with angst about something other than "I am dark and souless child of the night. Oh and by the way, I look rather spiffy in this cape."

Oh, and:

^.^ "Vampires should enjoy themselves as easily as humans do, and should really only crave blood around dinner time."

^-Quote: Not Mine. Though I'm really not sure the author might be. I need to start keeping track. ^.^;

Sleep, friend. Because, honestly, it's something you never seem to do. ^.^ Try it. You'll like it.

Whoever said it, they speaka da good sense. Because yeah, totally never got the part where they hate their existence and their desire to eat. OMG I WANT A HAMBURGER WOE IS ME! is ridiculous, so why is it okay for a vamp to hate drinking blood? Or maybe I just suck at angst and so avoid traditional vampires.

Eh. Me & Sleep will be fighint until I finally am killed by a caffeine overdose. I'm a night owl by nature, so I fracking hate this go to bed early wake up too fucking early crap. I keep fightig it -- so far I am 0 to a bajillion with Sleep laughing his ass off.

My vampires tend to be rather matter-of-fact about the "blood-sucking creature of the night" thing. This could be because many of them are born-vampires.

My primary vampire, Saphrael, doesn't so much angst as muse a lot. I find it hard to get him to do much other than think about languages and how the world has changed. Which is a pity because I think I'm secretly in love with him, at least a little.

... apologies for babble.

Hello... loyal reader and semi-lurker here... I've emailed a couple of reviews to you, but did not have an lj until recently...
But now that I do I thought I'd comment, and friend you.
Also, last night I read a story in which a slave is being (illegally) taught to read so he can help his scholar master... it was a little like deja vu but I couldn't quite place it. Then I realized it reminded me a little of Embrace and wondered when you might update. Imagine my shock when I saw my true nature as a rabid Embrace fan... previously I had been more of a beggar for Paradise... really, anything you want to work on is a gift. If I may whisper some subliminal nudges in your ear, though... more Moon and Devil would be lovely.

I hope you don't mind me friending you... Keep up the spectacular work!

^_^ Thank you! Hopefully I'll stop slacking here sometime soon >_> I hate tryign to write during the holiday X_x

Well, I see it like this. People like hamburgers. Vampires like blood. People aren't all "WOE IS ME I VANT HAMBURGER!" (unless they're uh, vegan) because people have never been cows. Vampires have been people, thus the angst.

Personally, I like it when vampires totally give up on their humanity and become blood-sucking fiends. People with fangs? Not for me.

If I were a Vampire... I would be thrilled. Oh yeah, baby. Just absolutely ducky.

I would take blood to satisfy the needs of Darwinism and to thin the gene pool, and I would just plain have a blast doing it. Angst? Regret? Woe is me?

Fuck no!

Killing people is bad? Uh.. depends on who, mo fo. Some people just need to get dead. And that living forever thing? Well shit, I keep saying I need more time to check out all the things I want to do. Sounds perfect. ;->

Taking into account the points other people have already made, here's something not yet covered.
It [wangsty doom and darkness] only really makes sense if you think of it in terms of starvation. Assuming that blood is the only thing vampires can eat and that their metabolism is hyped up on account of being, well, dead, and that the blood is technically all that is keeping them alive then, yes, the "DEEP HORRIBLE UNQUENCHABLE HUNGER" thing does make sense. But only once they've passed a certain threshold of hunger; it doesn't work as a normal mental/physical state.

And for the record: You are one of the most amazing fiction writers I have read in quite a while. After reading all your fairytales I literally squee-ed at the sheer cuteness. I'm slowly working through everything you have up on your site. When I'm done I'll probably email you a lengthy review that goes over every single story.

btw, some of the html on your site isn't quite right [missing end tags, broken links etc.]sometime in the future I'd be willing to go through (I'm reading it anyway) and fix, or note, the stuff that doesn't work, for you if you do so wish

I apologise if my English is incomprehensible right now. I've been writing a Spanish paper, so I'm still thinking in that language pattern and screwing up the English.

From: [identity profile] maderr.livejournal.com

^_^ I used to have that problem when I studied Japanese. It's really hard to switch back to English after you do the foreign language for a certain amount of time. You make a good, btw. Under those circumstances, it would make sense.

As for the html, I'm surprised most days my site works at all >_> I'll try to get to it after christmas, as I have zero time right now.

And thank you ^_^
