From my beloved Gomes I have acquired Brokeback Mountain and How Like An Angel.

From my parents' house I ganked the Otherland series by Tad Williams (the books are beasts in size - about 800 pages or so each if tha'ts the sort of thing you find daunting but even if you do the books are fucking awesome. They KICK. ASS. So much love for this series).

And I tried to use a gift card the other day on amazon and somehow...I guess I accidently did the one-click shopping though I'd swear I hadn't? Anyway, now own The Blood of Kings by John Michael Curlovich, Firelands by Michael Jenson and (because it just sounds hilarious) Fingering the Family Jewels by Greg Lilly. All of which are slash, and all of which seem either interesting or amusing. As I bought three, at least one of them had better turn out to be stellar. We shall see.

If I can figure out how to use my giftcard online (it's an american express giftcard) then I want to buy Epistemology of the Closet and (I just know I'm going to catch hell for this) The 120 Days of Sodom and Other Writings by the Marquis de Sade et al.

Sammie geeks over the reference section. I geek over everything that will get me dismissed from polite company. If I could go bak to school for a degree in Gender and Sexuality? So totally would. But I don't want another BA and I doubt I can go to MA with BAs in East Asian Studies and History. Alas.

Speaking of geekdom (because weren't we) I told my boss I was going to a New Year's party at a friend's house to hang with "fellow geeks" since that seemed easier than explaining the monkey list et al. and she said "did you say fellow geeks? why would you say that?" like it was a horrible horrible thing to call myself a geek.

Heh. My coworkers really don't know me at all.

Whee! Books!

Given what you focused your thesis on, I don't see why you couldn't do an MA in Gender and Sexuality.

Also... seeing as I always find books without purchasing, will I be able to sample some of your acquisitions when you are finished? I might fangirl reference, but I still like to be entertained by your "mediocre drivel" (aka Fiction) from time to time. ^_~

I don't think I wear pretentious well...

I may try when I'm more stable. It would be fun.

Of course I'll share my mediocre drivel. Long live the drivel!

I think you could if you really really wanted to -- read, if you were trying to piss someone off to the point of murder.

It's only too many books when you die not having read some. =D So, capre diem! More books!

I think those gift cards are used like regular credit cards? Or at least that's what the TV told me once upon a time.

Dude, the books you like would have me hiding under my covers terrified. XD

and she said "did you say fellow geeks? why would you say that?" like it was a horrible horrible thing to call myself a geek.

I get so weirded out by people who use geek and socially awkward and nerd as derogatory terms. It occurs to me at times, that I've come to make them synonymous with cool, quirky, interesting people.

Ah, normal people are strange. ;3 Have fun at your party! *glomps*

Considering I have Sodomy and the Pirate Tradition and one that I can't find on my shelves right now about Gay Samarai I'm not going to say anything about your book choices.

Although if you like threesomes, I recommend "The Fire's Stone" by Tanya Huff.

YES. That one made me COO like a retard. I keep going back to reread it whenever my threesome cravings get too powerful and there's nothing new online.

I love threesomes too and I almost never find any! This is sad. If you find any more threesome novels, please share. I'll do the same. Two brains looking for threesomes is better than one. ^^

I'm all about the threesomes, so I'll keep a lookout too? Surely in this case three minds is ideal.

The more the merrier. *_______*

But also three minds would be kind of ironic and funny. >D

The Blood of Kings was strange, man.

Not bad, but you know...

Strange.

I thought you didn't want anything more to do with Brokeback Mountain. Not that I didn't have a hint about how it already ended due to comments about tragedy and crazy rednecks all played by Randy Quaid, I wonder if you should have mentioned what type of spoilers when you gave a warning. Not that you really gave a spoiler.

All I know is that there were gay cowboys but I wonder if they actually ate pudding.

Bought The Blood of Kings. It was ok but if you know anything about what they call egyptology then there are some references that aren't up to currently held thought. So suspend belief and its ok, better than some I've read. Have looked at Fingering the family jewels, its on the wish list but probably won't/can't buy list. Feedback?
As for going for the MA with the BA in another field.. research. Some fields will let you, you just have to make up a few courses.

Actually, Epistemology of the Closet sound right up my alley... I'd love it if you posted some quick thoughts when you've read it.

I've found that most MA programs really don't care what your Bachelor's degree is in. Don't know about that one in particular. I've been accepted for an MBA program and a MSW program (neither of which I am in, my interests change before the semester starts) and I've never taken an undergrad course in business or social work. I think you should go for it.

Enjoy your books and your geek-fest.^^ Happy New Year!

Whee, book recs! *squees like a little girl* And after my birthday, I'm SO going on a massive book-buying binge. Some girls go to the mall...I go to amazon.com. And Borders. (Am such a nerd.)

Oh, just so you know, "Firelands" is actually a sequel to another book called "Pioneers," though I guess you'll be able to understand it pretty well. Just, to really get the characters John Chapman and Palmer, I would suggest reading "Pioneers" first. But that's just me. I hope you enjoy! I really liked both!

Book recs! Yay!

Try this one on for size: I'm such a geek that I spent New Year's Eve at an event called New Year's Eve of Loser Fun playing a two round module of Dungeon's and Dragons. ;->

I think I want your books.
