Boss' comp - she's been trying to clean off her desktop, but everytime it's restarted EVERYTHING is back the way it used to be. I don't now how to make it stop doing that.

Duh, there is only one sensible answer to this, ful:

Her computer hates her. It is plotting against her in the night with the stapler.

Anyway, actually helpful advice: it may be a worm; they've been known to do that. Try running a virus check?

Has she deleted icons from her desktop so they go in the recycle bin?

Has she created a new folder to store unused desktop icons?

Or is she simply trying to rearrange how things look?

The only thing I can think of... is that since I'm assuming people are supposed to store everything on a massive shared drive (to keep individual workspaces and hard drives clean and whatnot)... that maybe the IT admin has it set up so that when the computer reboots it does a restore to a previous time point that has been set as the default. Some of the computers at Dickinson used to do this... the one at the Info Desk, for example. We would all install AIM when we got there to work... and then when the comp was shut off over night and turned on in the morning... nothing was changed because it reset itself to it's "permanent" state.
