You'd think getting back, I'd be ready to chat the night away. I'm still trying to catch up on sleep - and I'm slowly remembering what it's like to be warm. OMFG was it cold there. Especially Scotland.
IT WAS COLD. I can't emphasize that enough. But I loved it, don't get me wrong. It's just that it was a whole new level of fucking freezing for me. But it was GORGEOUS, omg I've never scene a landscape like that. I can't even describe it - I really hope some of my pictures come out. We have postcards but even they don't really do it justice, I think.
We did quite a bit considering we only spent about three days in the land of the Scots. They've got some badass castles - I think Edinburgh Castle was my fav - heck, I know it was my fav. My friend Gomes was more fond of Stirling, which is considered the best castle in Scotland. Castles rock, we went to I don't know how many and I never got tired of them. I want a castle - but mine will have central heating.
We also went on this really famous ghost tour while we were in Edinburgh - they've had like 400 attacks by this one poltergeist that hangs out in what's been dubbed the Black Mausoleum. People have been bit, hit, otherwise attacked - some have even been knocked out. But nothing happened on our trip, which figures. The graveyard itself was cool though, they apparently used to torture and kill a bunch of prisoners there - the conventor's or something. Couple of serial killers are buried there too.
Speaking of death, that cold I keep mentioning almost did us in the night of the 30th. I'm exaggerating of course, but it really did get the best of us. See, we kept reserving stuff at the last minute and didn't know tha Edinburgh was the place to be for New Year's - so the 30th we couldn't find a room ANYWHERE and wound up staying most of the night in the train station. There's no heating in the place because it's mostly open to mother nature. Then the fuckrs closed the place at two (we were actually lucky, usually it closea and a quarter to one) and we wound up walking all around the city until it opened back up at four. That was a night, I think gomes is still plotting revenge for that one (it was mostly my idea to just stay at the station).
Then there's the Bus Incident the next day, after a night of no sleep and subzero temps. Gomes took a train back, so only my sister and I suffered this next indignity. Our bus was supposed to leave at ten am. At 10:10 my sister and I were a little confused but not really worried. I speak with the guy at the desk, he tells everyone the bus will arrive in "5, 10 minutes."
An hour later, we're told it'll show in another 5-10 minutes. Twenty minutes later they tell us it won't be there until noon. At 12:30 they get some vans and taxis to take us to our bus, which is about 2 hours away. Only much later did we find out the whole fucking incident had something to do with a flat tire. Longest five minutes of my life, that's for sure.
But I'm leaving out the day trip across the Highlands, which preceeded the Cold Night and Bus Incident. There's nothing much to say except that my sister has decided she's moving to Scotland. I am severely tempted, but despite it all Bath really is still my favorite.
In addition to mountains, rivers, and the infamous Loch Ness (we looked and looked but never saw the damned monster. just Ye Olde Gift Shop) we also saw these few things: the train tracks used by the Hogwarts Express, the castle used for Monty Python and the Holy Grail. There was something else, but it's escaping me at the moment...
Scotland rocks. But go in the summer.
Okay, I'd planned on doing one monster post but Paris is going to be one long frog-hating rant and I'm not feeling energetic enough for that right now.
