I'll confess, I expected this story to go the way most of them go -- stories that wind up being mostly porn that I just start skipping because I was hoping for more actual story.

Added bonus, it has fairytale ties. I really can't wait for part two. I hope torquere does more stuff like this. Its good to know stories like mine actually stand a chance in the world, which has always been my deepest fear.

Also, I will never have this chick's patience for laying out so much detail X_x Probably why my attempts at fantasy will always be mediocre at best. The hardcore of the fantasy writers could turn Lost Gods into a massive series, or at least five books of 500 pages each. Me? They *might* reach 200.

Oh, wandering. Anyway. Kirby has an awesome gift for detail, laying out the cultures. Switches tenses sometimes, but I think only Sammikins would really go twitchy. Slow pacing, but I like that in my fantasy (yet I'm so impatient when writing...). And, as I said, fairy tale ties and a land of snow and darkness! (I hate sonw, but love it in fictionn. the brain, it makes no sense).

The characters are cool. Liall is a fun bandit king without being stereotypical of that lot at all. I like Scarlet, and how he's just a pedlar. Not something that I see tons in fantasy, usually it's soldiers and spies and Ye Olde Farm Boi Who Becomes Supreme Knight Errant and saves the stupid bitch woman instead of killing her as any sane man would. I think Scarlet's race is a bit too goody-goody but that's probabl somewhat the point, and as this is only book one of X, who really knows? I was tricked into liking elves by that wench Lackey, I'm sure I'll learn to like Scarlet's peeps.

Tired, tired. Should not be pimping book now but am too keyed up to sleep. The problem with being miserable enough to want to play chicken on the highway is that when I finally get back up all I want is to *do* stuff. Like write. Yeeesss. Necromancer is banished but I still have a ficathon story laughing at me.

So thanks, Kirby and Torquere, you have cheered me immensely and given back my motivation and muses.

The story, now that you have suffered through my ramblings:

Scarlet and the White Wolf: Book One

And please don't tell me I have to wait for freakin' ever for two. Gods what is it with fantasy writers and the torturing of the readers.

Okaybednow.

It ended before it even began!

Actually, it was pretty good, even if some of the associations had me snickering. Liall is totally a drow.
