d00d, I went into the bookstore to spend my coupon on Poe and something cheap (to make the req. $35.00).

I picked this book up much in the way I pick up any vamp book that catches my eye - to Sneer at it before throwing it back on the shelf after reading the lame ass premise.

Here's the first paragraph on the inside flap:

"My mother, Morgan le Fay, was called the Witch-Queen, and my father, Arthur, King of the Britons. Merlin taught me the Sacred Arts. And my lover was the greatest of knights...I was born bastard and prince, and hidden from the world as I came to manhood, but I will return to claim my throne.

Refusing to believe my luck, I read on further and saw the statement was repeated:

...and his passionate love affair wtih a knight in King Arthur's court...

Still dumbfounded, for a I refused to believe that I was this lucky, I read the prologue:

"I will tell you what truth I know," Mordred said. "If, with each tale, you allow me one freedom."

"I cannot promise freedom."

"I do not mean freedom from this cell. I mean, the freedom wtih you that I desire."

"I have heard of your desires," the monk said.

"And I know the desires of one kept among monks his whole life, one of such beauty and longing and purity," Mordred said. "But I need one freedom to begin and another when I have finished."

"Tell me," the young monk said.

"For a kiss," Mordred smiled, his gaze staedy upon the youth, who leaned forward while Mordred rose to meet it and pressed his lips against the monk's. The young monk withdrew after too long a moment, his face flush red in the lamplight.

I also like the author's intro, which in summ says: "I could have done this with historic accuracy, but I like the sparkly legends more so I went with that. Mordred is gay this time because I say so."

If there exists any respectable slasher who could have resisted buying that book (unless your reason was along the lines of "Megan does or will shortly buy this and I can steal it from her), I don't think you can count yourself a respecatable slasher unlesss knights and all don't do it for you.

Now, I am off to devour dinner and my new prize.

I also want to know why I've neither seen nor heard of this book. It's been out since January, but this is the first I've seen it -- and trust me I would have seen it. I troll the aisles and anything with the name 'Mordred' may as well have flashing lights. Grrr...

Still, GLEE.

Ahaha, fangirling aside, it's looking to be a pretty cool take on teh whole thing. He also said in his intro that there are lots of versions of the legens, and that Mordered is nearly always the Supreme Villian but sometimes he's the Hero of the Day and he decided to just go somewhere inbetween.

I think this series is goig to be sad as goddamn hell, but I can't help it - I love Mordred, and a slashy Morded written by someone ~~who writes far better than I ever will~~ who obviously loves what he's writing is a tiny dream come true.
