I have a B & N gift card ^____________^ Thank you, Lady!!!! <<<3333

Decided I should get two or three of the nonfic books I've been eyeballing for awhile, since I never get them in favor of fiction.

But which ones?

A Field Guide to Demons, Fairies, Fallen Angels, and Other Subversive Spirits
The Forge and the Crucible: The Origins and Structure of Alchemy
The History of Sexuality
Epistemology of the Closet
Between Men: English Literature and Male Homosexual Desire
Hellenism & Homosexuality in Victorian Oxford
Dandies and Desert Saints: Styles of Victorian Masculinty
Masculine Desire: The Sexual Politics of Victorian Aesteticism
Encyclopedia of Hell
Illustrated Encyclopedia of Traditional Symbols

Other suggestions?

Gomi-chan, I actually think of you with that symbol one. It's one I'd always wanted to read and then send your way, since I know how much you love incorporating such things into your work. Perhaps I will def get that one then, and send it along as a (probably late) birthday present ^_^

So hard to choooooose.

*laughs* I will expect the full oral version when we go to dinner! After we gossip about Sarah, naturally.

Thank you again, Lady!

Epistemology of the Closet sounds interesting... though, the Pub. Weekly critic did not think so. Between Men has better reviews listed.
Subversive spirits would be fun to play with.

Oh, see, the Hellenism one had me wincing, as Maria is learning Greek in her car, but it sounds really interesting. As do the other two Victorian ones.

Happy shopping and reading, whichever you choose.

I rarely bother to check reviews, though I guess I should.

Thank you for the suggestions and comments ^__^ I will keep them in mind.

_The History of Sexuality_--if it's Michel Foucault's--is a really, really dry academic read, despite it's cool title. Also, because it was originally written in French, it makes no sense whatsoever (French theory=opaque).

Only the introduction and first chapter of _Between Men_ are all that interesting (and if you give me your address, I'll photocopy them and mail them to you).

Epistomology of the Closet is also pretty dense (and slightly boring despite the cool name).

These, in case you want an academic's opinion :)
(I'm such a geek it's not even funny. But I'm a cute geek, right?)

oooooooo. the field guide to demons, etc. sounds really awesome. but i'm a complete sucker for those kinds of books. the ones about homosexuality/masculinity in the victorian era sound really interesting, but books like that can be increeeeeeeedibly boring. the one's i had to read when i did my [short and admittedly subpar] research paper on greek homosexuality/pederasty were kind of really dry and dense. they had some really interesting tidbits, but over all i had trouble getting through them.

*shrugs* dunno if that's at all helpful, but i'm avoiding latin homework, so i thought i'd drop in my two cents. happy birthday early! and good luck with all your drabbles!!

o, and out of curiosity, did you or [livejournal.com profile] rykaine ever post the master list for the ficathon?

Yeah, it always sucks how dry the most interesting subjects can become when academics get ahold of them.

Your two cents is most appreciated ^__^

Eehhehee. I should do that this weekend *hides*
