At the bidding of Tyg
Oct. 20th, 2006 09:39 pmI've been inflicting Lost Things From the Notebooks upon her all night.
I found a DwtD drabble, of chibi!Chris doing his ghost thing for mommy and daddy.
It's not great, but worth a cute point or two.
Glenys panicked when she went to find Chris for his snack time and realized he was nowhere to be found. Calling Daniel, they set to searching for him. After nearly an hour with no success, Glenys began to really panic.
In tears, she’d started to call her mother—
—When he strolled into the kitchen asking plaintively for a snack and more juice.
Daniel kept her from killing him.
When she asked where he’d been, Christian frowned – so much like his father – and her he’d been playing across the street (an empty lot she’d cleaned out and set up with a swing set that had set her back a year on repairing the kitchen).
She told him only naughty boys lied.
Christian had started to cry and said he wasn’t lying – he’d been pretending to be daddy while he was swinging.
She and Daniel exchanged puzzled glances.
“What do you mean, sweetie?”
Christian frowned at them and rubbed his eyes. “Like this,” he said with a sniffle, and vanished before their eyes.
Glenys let out a scream of surprise as her son vanished and immediately ordered him to unvanish right this instant. She pulled her son close and gave him a hug, kissing his cheek and wiping the tears from his face. “Mommy is sorry for shouting, baby doll. I didn’t know you could be like daddy.”
Daniel knelt down and cocked his head thoughtfully. “Chris – can you do it halfway? Like Daddy is now?”
“Little bit,” Christian’s tears vanished as he realized his parents were no longer angry. Scrunching his eyes closed, he softly muttered ‘like daddy’ and bit by bit he seemed to fade, until Glenys could just barely see the wall behind him.
“That’s very good, Chris,” Daniel said warmly. “You can stop now.”
Bemused, Glenys fixed her son a snack and got him some juice. Once he was at the table, happily eating, she stepped into the hallway with Daniel. “It’s…I never…” she stopped and shook her head. “Amazing.” She smiled faintly at her lover – her husband in everything but ceremony.
Daniel soothed up and down her arms, his ghostly touch hot-cold against her skin. “This will certainly make it hard to discipline him.”
Glenys rolled her eyes. “This is no time for jokes.”
“Are you truly that upset, sweetheart?”
“Huh?” Glenys blinked at the deep frown on Daniel’s face. “Of course not, Dan. I’m just worried for him. Is it okay, do you think? For him to be half-ghost?”
Daniel smiled and stroked her cheek with one ghostly hand. “If the kid isn’t bothered by it – and clearly all he needs is practice – the I wouldn’t worry.”
Glenys nodded, taking a deep breath. “Things are going to be interesting from here on out, I can see.” She frowned, a thought occurring to her. “Why can he go invisible but not transparent?”
“it’s easier to be invisible. Ghosts are made by will, right? So to be nothing is ver easy. To be somewhere between something and nothing is much harder. It’s probably even harder for him because he’s alive.”
Glenys stood up on her toes to brush a soft kiss across her husband’s mouth. “You’ll help him?”
“Of course.”
“I mean in a good way, not in a ‘let’s give mommy a heart attack’ kind of way.
“If you insist, peach.”

Date: 2006-10-21 02:05 am (UTC)Hopefully Glenys will find the time to keep him well-informed. Telling baby Christian stories to teh Demon Lord would have the added benefit of annoying Chris.

Date: 2006-10-21 02:24 am (UTC)Of course. Mommy loves bragging about her baby. Sable adores them. He was stupid enough once to bring one of the stories up. Chris was Displeased.

Date: 2006-10-21 02:37 am (UTC)"What did you just say?" Chris asked, voice taking on a tone that even a demon had cause to fear.
Sable hid a wince. "Nothing, beloved."
"I don't recall telling you about that particular childhood incident, Sable.
"You haven't told me any," Sable said with an expression that was part reproval, part pout.
Chris narrowed his eyes. "My mother."
"She likes telling stories about you as a boy, I like hearing stories about you as a boy," Sable said soothingly. He reached out to grab hold of Chris.
"I don't recall saying you could listen or that she could tell!" Chris snapped, jerking away. "Particularly that one. I was five. I didn't know it was for girls."
Sable tried to hide a smile, but from the glint in Chris's eye he knew he'd failed. "Beloved--"
"Don't beloved me!" Chris snapped. "Get away."
Sable ignored him, this time not letting Chris jerk back, tugging him close and kissing him to ward off protests. "Come now, beautiful. I like knowing everything about you." He paused, then went in for the kill. "Besides, I do'nt have happy childhood memories of my own. It makes hearing yours that much sweeter."
"Cheater," Chris muttered, but let the argument drop.

Date: 2006-10-21 03:33 am (UTC)Ahahaha! Why do I not believe Daniel's answer?
And then Sable/Chris drabble? Lovely. Chris is so prickly; I love how Sable just loves him anyway and Chris gives in, like it's such a chore. They are so perfect together.
Do you think you would lulu this one? Lulu? Lolu? Leelu? You know what I mean. And maybe put illustrations in it, if your illustrators agree and it is possible. I would very excitedly order at least one copy. Maybe two. One to read and one to horde.
Oh, and I hope the kitty is feeling better!

Date: 2006-10-21 01:39 pm (UTC)Heh. Daniel caused plenty of trouble in his own day, you can bet he'll cause more with his son.
^_^ I think the prickly is Sable's favorite part.
I def want to lulu it. It's on my list to revise and finish. I shall speak with them about the illustrations.

Date: 2006-10-21 08:11 am (UTC)The Sable/Chris drabble is great too. I love Chris; he tries so hard to be independant and aloof, but can't help but give in when Sable loves him so much.
