drabble for avalon

Oliver sipped his coffee as he stepped out onto the back porch, the heat of it a nice contrast to the cool morning air.
Taking another sip, he climbed down the steps to the beach proper, moving down to the lounge chairs set just far enough up to avoid the tide. Settling down in one, he enjoyed his coffee while Lin swam.
"I wish I had that much energy at this age," he muttered as Lin splashed in the surf, then slowly wandered up the beach toward him.
He set his cup down just in time, as a long, rough tongue swiped his face, Lin rumbling. The dragon gave another swipe, making Oliver laugh and sputter, before he shifted and Oliver found himself with a lapful of warm, wet dragon.
"Good morning, Oliver," Lin said, not giving him a chance to reply but taking his morning kiss, raking his claws lightly down Oliver's bare arms. "Sleep well?"
Oliver laughed even as he was fed another kiss. "You wore me out, Dragon, what do you think?"
"Pretty mint and silk," Lin murmured, trailing kisses along his mouth and jaw, down his throat to one shoulder.
Such words still made him wonder when he was going to wake up. Even after the past few months, he kept waiting for it all to suddenly end. All his life he'd wanted to see and touch a dragon, and all his life he'd had to avoid them. Now nearly every morning found him on a beautiful beach with a warm and happy dragon eager to play with 'pretty mint and silk.'
And he had Dri…something he'd thought as impossible as being able to see a dragon.
He slid his hands down Lin's back, loving the feel of slick, warm skin, cupping Lin's ass to press them closer together.
"Oliver work today?" Lin asked, then attacked Oliver's nipples, teeth biting sharp, claws scraping.
"I'm supposed to answer questions while you're doing that?" Oliver managed, then gave up talking, groaning low as Lin continued the assault. "Inside, dragon," he gasped out, as Lin kept moving lower. "These chairs aren't that strong."
Lin chuckled, one had ghosting over Oliver's cock where it was still trapped by his black lounge pants, then moved back up to kiss him again. "Shower?"
"You just went swimming," Oliver said with a sound that was part laugh, part groan as Lin only continued to torture him.
"So?"
Oliver pushed, sending a surprised Lin toppling, then gave a cry of his own as he was yanked down hard, landing on top of a snickering dragon who eagerly took his mouth again.
"Covered in sand. Shower," Lin said in triumph.
"Dragons," Oliver said, but went eagerly when Lin got them both standing and then dragged him to the rinse showers on the side of the house.
By the time they actually made it inside, Dri would be awake.

And when Dri invited him over, and he couldn't say no because 'hello' his love wanted him to come to dinner. So he went, even though he knew it would ruin everything, he went because he loved Dri and wanted to meet Lin, and okay I'm crying again, because Dri didn't even give Oliver a chance, oh so sad.
I don't know why I'm telling you this, you wrote it...sorry, I got way off track. This is very good, I love Oliver and Lin and Dri, and I want you to write more. Of everything, past present and future I don't care I want it!
Sorry, yeah, this story does weird things to me. I didn't mean to morph into a demanding toddler for a second there.
I love you, and this story, and all the dragons, but Oliver is my favorite.

Date: 2007-07-08 02:06 pm (UTC)I was thinking on your thoughts of getting more into how dragon brains work and how that comes across in their speech. I don't know that you meant editing anything you have already written, but I don't think that is necessary. I think that the 'otherness' of the dragons is what comes across in their speech patterns, rather than any indication of intelligence for maturity level. If 'intelligence' factors in, I think it highlights that their 'intelligence' lies in other areas. I do not see a dragon becoming a lawyer or a physicist, not because they wouldn't be smart enough, but because why would they want to? They are strong and loyal and proud and good at a great many things that don't involve endless paperwork or petri dishes. They are made for action, not long speeches and stuffy offices.
That said, it is always fun to learn more about the 'verse, and if you wanted to delve more into the brains of dragons, I think that Nev and Ken would be a great pair to use for this. Nev pov would rock, but as the norm of the stories is Owner pov, I think Ken's would work just as well. He knew Nev before either of them knew he was a dragon. Surely he had an idea of how Nev thought and spoke before, and how that might have changed after he'd been in dragon form and been around other dragons. In my head I imagine Nev had always been a boy of few words, but that it wasn't until being in dragon form that his mind aligned itself with that more straightforward way of thinking, and retained it even in his human form as 'better.' Or maybe I'm totally wrong. Hopefully we'll see Ken and Nev's leaving of the nest, and maybe what they were up to between Made to be Broken, and Blaze and Erie's story.
