Shah: Three - two sons and a daughter, all beautiful and wonderful, even if they have inherited my penchant for mischief.

Oh Dieter, thou art so recalcitrant and full of Mystery.I had hoped that this would help me uncover a few mysteries, instead, it's making them worse. *headdesk*

Questions? Okay, why does Dieter love his dad so damn much? By all accounts, his dad was a ruthless bastard, who only wanted a son to give to the Kaiser. And what about his mum? Didn't he love her too? Meg, my love, you've indulged the other with their inquiries about the dragons and chris and Sable, do you suppose you could do the same with Dieter? His childhood, nd why he doesn't hate his father, and all the things that conspired to make him Dieter. Please? Pretty please? Or I'll draw him in a dress again

Child, all you ever had to do was ask.

Dieter and his father is a complicated relationship.

First, Dieter's father wasn't entirely cruel the way you seem to think. He loved Bastard Kaiser to a fault, yes, and wanted to give the man his son, so there's no denying he's an Asshole of the first order..

But Dieter didn't see it that way, not really, not for a long, long time. He saw a man who pushed him to be perfect, whose swords were revered and coveted, who always stopped working on those swords to drill/assist his son. As a boy, he idolized his father, who was strong and hard working and knew the Kaiser and yet still spent so much time with his son. Only when he was older did Dieter realize completely what he was meant to be, but to his mind he would do anything to make his father proud and happy. It's probably the oddest, most confusing thing about Dieter -- but if things had gone the way they should have, he would probably be exactly what he was intended to be, and content to be that, b/c it made his father happy.

He considers his mother weak. She knew very well she was just a tool, something a young Dieter would not have understood, so from his perspective she was a sour, unhappy woman who spent more time complaining than trying to make his father happy and proud.

Dieter is Dieter. He was actually kinder as a child, but it was beaten out of him, more or less, once he joined the army. Realizing what he was intended to be sort of scared and intimidated him at first, but he buried it beneath the desire to please his father. After the murders, and the fact he was too drunk to prevent them (because if he'd been sober, it very well might ahve played out different. The one thing never explicitly stated is that Dieter can't drink. He's a totaly uber lightweight).

After all of that, he pretty much became the Dieter you know. Everything became too much for him to ever be anything else.

Don't know that I actually explained Dieter and his father well; it's extremely difficult to put down what I know in my head. The short answer, I guess, is that Dieter is selectively blind where his father is concerned. Despite everything, he really and truly loves his father.

I have two questions!

1) Which one of your characters do you have the biggest crush on? Like, if this was real life, and they were not gay, which one would you want to be your boyfriend?

2) Could you see any of your characters hooking up with someone from a different story? For example, have you ever thought that even though characters A and B are a couple, character X would be so much cuter with B?

1) Sahayl, easy. My biggest HS crush was on a guy from Egypt, and I crushed on a guy of similar descent in college, too. Sahayl is probably way too much wishful thinking than I like admitting even to myself.

My biggest weakness is hot Indian guys, so I am totally with you there.

I only ask because I always wonder if readers are making up their own couples in their minds. Maybe they don't like my couple or maybe they think A with Z would be so much hotter. I can't think of any, really, since I find I sort of tailor the characters to each other (omg, isn't it lucky they met? they're liek perfect 4 each other! WEIRD) and I assumed you do something of the same.

Still, a pan-story orgy would be hot!

Sie and Ril speaks like five yers old. But I noticed all dragons tended to speak of themselve at (…the third singular form? I don't know what's the exact terme in english for people who speak of themselve at the he/she form) Is it just that they are lazy to speak properly (if it had only been Sie and Ril I would've thought it was to be cute but since there are other…) or is there something else?
