Post O'Rambles
Nov. 30th, 2007 11:01 amOne: I noticed today that BN finally shipped me Viewfinder 3. Went to the Be Beautiful site just on a whim, since obviously they've got Viewfinder available again, only to see that instead of 'down for maintence' as they've been the past couple weeks, the website is now simply gone. Good riddance. They were a shitastic publisher. Hope they got bought out by someone competent.
Two: LJ is now offering censorship. You know, I don't even care that I could choose to Adultify my own stuff. For various reasons I can't/won't, but you know -- whatever. If people want to do it, go ahead. I stll maintain I shouldn't have to. Walk in a bookstore and what do you see? Books upon books upon books. Precious few of them are not readily available to all and sundry -- in fact, only the manga is plastic wrapped that I've ever seen. But run o' the mill erotica? Nope. It's not my fucking job to tell people what to read/what not to read. When I was a kid, my parents said 'you cannot read this' and then when I was old enough my mother went 'here, these are really good. read these.' I put up warnings for shit I think might merit it, and I've always said if people want to contact me to know what is what, they should feel free. I have, in fact, gotten several emails and was more than happy to respond to all of them. What really pisses me off is the ability to flag someone else's entries. What sort of BS is that? One, not my fucking job. I don't like something, I'll just fucking ignore it. I'm not mother to anyone here, I don't fucking work for LJ, and these are blogs for fucks sake. Come on.
Three: Trying to edit and get stuff together. Wish I could put out DwtD, but if I did it would have to lack three stories that I just haven't been able to finish yet. It would have only the main ten, three sidestories, and all the drabbles. The priest/dryad, kitsune, and alain's story would all have to go in a second volume somewhere down the road. So too the necromancer story, though I could probably actually finish that one now that I think about it...
Can't do DwtD dragons b/c I'm missing a key story there, and it refuses to cooperate. Boo hiss.
Blah. Need to finish editing fairytales ^^;; HOnesty, I'd be done except I fucking hate editing x_x It's tedious ass work. Whine whine whine ^^;;
Prisoner is good to go, minus the fact I've not been able to write any additional bits for Iah and Sol.
See? So many things are CLOSE, it's just little stuff holding me up x_x Can't do any kidnapped stuff cause I have to rewrite Kidnapped itself. Umm, I think I might have enough shorts for a random book of fantasy short stories. Sandstorm should be ready, though I won't be smutting up the King's harem stuff. The point of that was to do it without smut, and going back to add it back in just doesn't work.
Mergh.

Date: 2007-11-30 04:38 pm (UTC)2) I think it is too bad that 6A/lj has trampled so upon the trust of the community that first thoughts go to distrust and censorship. I'm not without concern about where this is headed, but think that having a voluntary system whereby we can flag our own stuff, out of respect for those who don't want to see it, could be good. I doubt anyone really believes it is for the protection of children who don't want to be protected. You have a similar thing in your bio, and people can choose to friend you, or not. This is just a way of using technology to make it easier for those people who aren't interested in sex, violence, whatever. As to how it will play out... who knows? I'm cautiously hopeful that worries will be unfounded. As for the flags, at least it takes 'multiple' (they didn't actually say how many) flags before anyone pays attention. Other sites have handled it worse.
1) Yay? ^_^

Date: 2007-11-30 04:57 pm (UTC)I never really wanted to mess with; I just caved to being told that I should. But, the stories are what they are, and I'm not going to screw them up. Thanks, mechante <3 And at this point it's just me tweaking word choice and crap like that. Tedious, boring, and no one can really do it BUT me, alas. Otherwise I would harass you in a heartbeat.
You know, I thought about it all night before deciding upon cynic this morning. In theory it is a good idea, and it is cool we can flag our own stuff. But, I dunno, given LJ's behavior so far I can help but play the pessimist. Hopefully I am wrong.
^^;; Sammie and I bitch about bebeautiful all the time. Buying Viewfinder has always been a massive pain in the ass,and Be Beautiful has always had shitty ass customer service. So, I'm being a bit of a bitch.

Date: 2007-11-30 11:54 pm (UTC)Anyway, whoo! Maderr stories! For sale. Have you picked your covers? Are they awesome? I'll get some either 1) when I have money or 2) when you release them... and I have money!
I would buy your book of fairytales first, too. Then Kidnapped. Oohh! This is going to be so awesome! Yay for Maderr! Huzzah!

Date: 2007-12-01 01:31 am (UTC)And now that I've paid my measly cent of sympathy, I'm going to demand that you finally get Sorin and Koray together and a little closer than we've seen so far! I love your writing and your imagination, so please take it that bit further and don't stop telling the characters' stories when they just "hook up"!!!And then when you're done with that, please revisit Embrace! And after that...
You get the picture. I'm another one of those demanding bastards. Love DwtD, too; love them all. And I'm pretty sure that like everyone else who reads your fiction, I will love whatever and for whichever arc you write for next. We'll always appreciate them in spades.
We just want you to keep writing. Anything. Just please don't stop.

Date: 2007-12-01 05:46 am (UTC)For pete's sake, if you're worried about your kids-- you can't take their *choice* of what to read or do away, all you can do is give them the best guidance you can offer and hope for the best.
Oh well.

Date: 2007-12-01 11:26 pm (UTC)... Remember that desert-fic I dedicated to you and never finished?
... Well, to make it up to you, I'm writing you something fluffy, smutty, and fairytale-like. Would you like a preview?
