Argh x.x I will not bitch about Iris, I will not bitch about Iris, I will not bitch about Iris....

Fuck it. I have one thing to say. If her books weren't good enough to buy before, why are they good enough to buy now that she's nearly out of business? I bought two books from that place and loathed, despised, and detested them both. Queer Magic? I happen to think that's rather an obnoxious, tacky, tasteless title.

Ugh. I'm going to bed before I get myself in trouble. I'm sure I just started a wankfest as is, and I'm sorry if I come off as a raging bitch but I will not say shit just to make the crowds happy. I hated Connections. And Thaw was dumb and a shoddy attempt at a post-apoc story. It was laughable. I feel bad that I'm being so harsh, but damn it. I'm tired of people just accepting crap and calling it shiney. I won't take it. I work hard to make my stories worth something, and they'll never win awards but they're not stupid or poorly executed or ill-thought or nothing but smut either.

Whatever. I obviously woke up in full bitch mode today, for no good reason, and I'm going to bed before yet another friend decides I'm only worth blowing off mid argument.

You sure you mean "Connections"? That was a collection of stories. Maybe you mean "A Strong and Sudden Thaw"? That was the post apocalyptic fic.

She means both of them.

Nah, she's got her rant running. It's easy to miss stuff when it's typed fast and on the fly--with a flare of anger.

We discuss these things all the time, though. So, I know what she's on about.

Yeah, I said Thaw was the post-apoc. I just didn't spell out the whole title, my bad ^^

Speaking of which, have you tried "Blind Eye Books"? I'm considering their "Wicked gentleman" book but I can't find anyone who read it.

Anyone that I know, that is.

Did that really get asked?

What? I asked her opinion on another book. Did I offend in any way?

I have to say, the only part of that I understood was 'Wicked Gentlemen'...

...but if you're talking about the book by Ginn Hale, it's totally worth buying.

Just to put this out there. Your a writer a damn good one at that and your only getting better. You've worked to make yourself a good writer so in my book you have ever right to bitch about people who call themselves writers but don't put in the effort.

Is it wrong of me to say that I find the title very offensive?

Oh, that's pretty much what we're all saying.

Not only that.
Geez, who ever that person was, couldn't they have thought a lil longer, and then choose a more tasteful title?

That said, I think purely based on the title alone, I think your writing is much better. At least you spend time and effort on these details. Details make the story.

"If her books weren't good enough to buy before, why are they good enough to buy now what she's nearly out of business?"

You're a glutton for punishment? Or you wish to support an independent writer? Or you're an optimist beneath it all.

In defense of gay fairy tales though, I've read some that were good. I don't think it's the idea that's bad, just the execution of it.

I write gay fairytales, technically. I don't think the idea is bad either. I didn't say it was. I said the title annoyed me. Like you say, the execution.

I'd have to go with Glutton for Punishment. Either that or everyone's so intent on the big picture, they're not taking time to note the details. *shrug* It's not that I want to see her fail, but I think she's being given far more credit than she deserves.

It's not the idea that's off-putting. [livejournal.com profile] maderr has her own collection of fairy tales, so it would be somewhat hypocritical to criticize that. The issue is the title. It's tasteless and tacky. I don't suppose it would have killed her to spend a bit more time thinking one up.

I wasn't sure if it was the stories themselves and their portrayal or the title only that was the main problem. One can overlook a title if the story is good, but, title aside, it sounds like the content isn't anything to talk about either, in a good way at least.

I've not read any of her stories though. It's a case perhaps of overinflated ego? At some point she got so much praise she stopped trying to improve. It makes me think of Anne Rice actually and the whole, "I don't need no stinkin' editor" issue.

I didn't mean to sound like the stories themselves were at question. I really only meant the title. I love fairytales, and writing slash versions of them. If I trusted Iris at all, I would totally buy them. But the two books I did read, sucked.

Overinflated ego? Her? Me? God, I hope you don't mean me x.x I would cry, cause I totally didn't mean to come off that way at all.
