Enchanted is a really cute movie. Tongue in cheek and very awwwww. It's fun ^__^ "I don't know what melodramatic means" AHAHAHAHA.

In other news, I see RAWR LJ round 3 is on -__- Christ, I thought we were finally done with all this nonsense. Why are they nixing basic accounts? Are they planning to do something else? Which of my friends and buddies will be leaving now? It makes me sad.

Ah, well. I'm going to eat the rest of Brandie's Sharkfin pie thingie, then commence with Bart's story. It's called The Highwayman and I've been dying to make this story click for like over a year. I'm glad it finally did ^___^

Though this morning I was suddenly bit hard by a desire to work on Blade & Butterfly. I think I'm just in the mood for blood, honestly. I wanted to fucking beat someone at work today -__- Fsking scanners.

Ah, well. cute movie ^_^ Story ^_^ Brandie's dessert ^__^

My thoughts on the basic accounts:

So, long ago there were blah basic accounts, and shiny! paid accounts. Then came ads, which, yuck, but they pay the bills, way more bills than paid accounts do. So who do we get to show off the ads, and how do we make people okay with this new and scary thing? We give them something for it! So, now you can get a plus account and get some of the shiny for none of the money, and only have to feel like a sell out for inflicting ads on your basic account friends. Which is okay, because some of those friends will break down and pay for their account. More money for the business.

So what's next? In Maria's words, 'how is Plus better than basic?' Basic account only makes sense because it has always been there. It doesn't make any money for the business, which, as they pointed out, lj most definitely is. So phasing it out really should have been expected.

The way they passed it off, at first, as 'look at this great new thing we've done for you, the users, by streamlining new account sign-ups! was badly done. Yes, being excited and optimistic about changes can help them go over more smoothly, but acting like it was a favor for us was taking it too far. But! they almost immediately came back and said 'my bad.' Communication has been such a sore spot, and for them to act on it that quickly, and explain their real motives, but very well done, imo.

For people to cancel their accounts because they wouldn't be able to start a new basic account...?

Or maybe some people are upset about the final decision on the drawn pics of people under 18? *shrugs* This is where we come to play, but someone else owns the playground, and gets to put up the rules. At least they are clearly, and unapologetically, defined. And they even asked for imput, so. Eh, I'm happy.

Um, yay movie, dessert, and bloody stories!!! ^__^

Yeah, b/t you and sammie, I've got a much better idea of what is actually going on. All I see is rawr! this and strike! that and I was just like "....is this really necesssary?"

Because, yeah, at the end of the day: LJ is a business. end of story. It's still a hell of a lot better than other blogging sites. *shrug* Whatever, I'm just sick of drama cropping up every six months or so. Seriously. If I want drama, man am I good at making it ^_~

*huggles*

I love my flist. I had to actually ask/hunt down what the drama even was, because all I had was a couple of people passively mentioning that there was new drama. It is nice to just be out of that loop. ^_^

Heh. I had like one person mention it, oh, last week, something about it not being clearly posted -- I think you mentioned it was poorly handled. Then it kinda vanished. Then I came home today to see We Are Forming A Strike and I was kinda "fuck what? oh for the love of..."

Personally, I think we need a strike on OMGDrama!

Pick your damn battles and stop calling to arms over every goddamn thing. Discretion is the better part of valor.

Bah. Of course we don't need it. The only thing that bothered me was the lack of communication, and the uninformative FAQ. At least they are more prompt than the previous administration, and finally admitted that LJ is a business. And we old users can still have our basic account level.

(Honestly? this may sound mean to RPers, who created new accounts all the time, but... maybe it's for the better. If you get a dozen journals, it stands to reason you'll either use them or delete them if they're no longer useful, not let them clutter the internet and waste company resources. Or at least that's what I'd do.)

Things change, that's true, but wasn't Livejournal in the early days supported by those fandom and roleplaying people?

It is true that LJ was the place where fandom migrated from all over the place. And, at the time, all seemed fine. But you must understand that with millions of users come drastically increased costs. Sure, some of us might opt for a paid account in order to get the extra features - or get it as a gift, as was my case. However, I once ran into a girl who confessed to having 50 accounts at a time. I cannot even begin to imagine how she could play so many characters at a time, let alone keep track of them all.

I did have a problem with this whole situation, and now that the LJ staff has apologized for their mistake and said they are looking for a way that current LJ users can still create basic accounts, I am willing to give them another chance. Being unreasonable about the whole issue has really started to lose its appeal after my teenage years. We must accept that they are trying, and that they cannot please everyone.

"The Highwayman"?!?!
Sounds so very... naughty. *snicker* Pardon me, I'm thinking about all-black attire, masks and silk.

Specifically, silk TIES.

Enchanted was one of those movies that surprised a lot of people. I liked it a lot too, although if it'd stuck to the super sweetness of the opening animated part it may have been too much.

The basic accounts change was annoying because LJ hid the "announcement" in a comment. What gets my attention more though is this.
