You know, it's really sad
Apr. 15th, 2008 09:44 pmThat I read one ebook (mediocre) and went to read another one in the same 'verse, and only in the second book did I realize that an mc in the first one was black O_o Either I skipped something, or someone is worse at description than me.
The bitch is staying white in my head, though. Too late to make him black now.

Date: 2008-04-16 01:49 am (UTC)::raises hand:: Most of the time I don't know what my characters look like, let alone my readers knowing what my characters look like. ^___^

Date: 2008-04-16 02:06 am (UTC)No, no, that was a different ebook. Throbbing purple with a vein o' doom *shudders* Though, that's still not as bleeding eyes as the organic silo. I can't even hear that word anymore without incurring injury from laughing.

Date: 2008-04-16 02:13 am (UTC)Babe, I think it safe to say I've read it all by this point, or damned near. If you can think it up, there's probably already an ebook for it -__- I so wish I was still in school, I'd have a field day studying gay erotica and how the various writers come into it. Those that come from the gay side write throbbing purple cock. Those that come from the slash side are more interesting in the long flowing hair. Ahahahahaha.

Date: 2008-04-16 02:30 am (UTC)XD Amen to that. You have no idea how many people I've assumed were gay men only to figure out that they were straight women writing from a completely different place I was used to seeing things from. *snickers*
I saw this the other day, and your talk here...is this something that would occur to us slashers? ^_^;; At the very least, I don't think it's as much an issue for slashers. I mean, the most I've ever worried about it is getting the basic mechanics right.
Although, they do make good points, both in the post and in the comments.

Date: 2008-04-16 02:42 am (UTC)Yeah, I've seen the matter come up before - hell, I've seen it come up just with writing straight sex. I think sex is the same as anything else in a romance story - we're not looking for total reality. It's, as that chick said, the romance we're after. We like our hearts and sparkles, damn it, but only after the bastards have angsted it up to hell and back. I seriously wish I could do a study on this, it totally fascinates. Men vs. Women, straight vs. gay vs. slash.
And I think most slashers sort of pick it up? Because let's face it, the simplest definition of slash is guy on guy romance written mostly by and for girls. It's not the same as gay romance, not even a bit, so slashers just take the romance over the total correctness as a given.
So goes my two cents anyway.

Date: 2008-04-16 12:23 pm (UTC)Wasn't an insult. More like relief, honestly. I hate reading about veiny, throbbbing purple cockc x.x

dildolollipop icon, myself.BTW, D is suffering from lust in this icon. Lust for sweets, in his case, but one that I happen to feel for long hair.
