So Iris Print finally reappears after doing the silent treatment thing for months and months, and what do we get?

If you aren't already aware of the latest juicy gossip about Iris Print, I'll let you read about it for yourself here, here, and here.

I'd just like to clarify a few things before my silence lets things escalate even more than they have.

1) Iris Print is shutting down. Unfortunately, the heartwarming support Iris's readers have shown was too little too late. There was a large enough boost in sales to give me hope for a while, but not large enough to actually breathe life into the company again. After Queer Magic, there will be no more books from Iris Print; however, orders are still shipping from the store.

2) Queer Magic is not cancelled. The title is delayed until July 30, because there were not enough pre-orders to pay for a normal print run. The difficulty of finding a new printer that can do a smaller-than-average print run at a reasonable price has caused a few delays. I'm not running off with anyone's hard-earned money, and anyone who pre-ordered the book is still just as free to cancel their pre-order as they ever were.

3) Iris Print does not owe Tina Anderson a cent. If she wants to organize a boycott because I refuse to dignify her "lawyer" with a gmail address with a response, that's fine by me. The end result is the same: nobody's buying her book.

4) R.W. Day's royalty payment has been made. The initial check did bounce; that was a bookkeeping error, and my mistake. I've been checking my email rather sporadically this last week, and I read her message late Friday evening. Once I confirmed what happened with the bank today, I made the payment via alternate means (as per her request).

5) Iris Print is not appearing at YJam. I thought I had let the organizers know this, but if that's not the case, it's my mistake, and I'll remedy it. I would appreciate if folks stopped wagging fingers at the con organizers because of my absent-mindedness. They've got enough on their hands, and I'd love to see their show turn into a success.

I love the opening salvo: If you aren't already aware of the latest juicy gossip about Iris Print.

I'm sorry, Kelly runs a business. We writers, as well as readers, tend to keep tabs on all the small press companies running around because we like them, hope they do well, because we want the shinies. Look at the news, sweetheart, every business is 'gossiped' about.

Then she blames the readers - their support came too little, too late. Nice. How dare all you people not keep me in business! Not our problem. I, personally, hated every last book she put out. Lots of people did not, however. Her problems were many, and they were all on her head. She runs a business, she ran it poorly. Don't blame other people for your own mistakes.

I'll be interesested to see how Queer Magic turns out. Given she's proven incompetent for the most part at keeping promises, I have my doubts about that book.

I don't think Kelly gets that the thing which angers people most is her lack of communication. She ignored people for months, then reappeared with a pity party. Then she vanished again, not even speaking to her writers. Ignoring business associates? Bad idea. Way to screw yourself.

She's also getting snarky and nasty in the comments. She reminds me now of two other people in the industry I can't stand, the type who get nasty and mean and condescending about professionlism and all, but don't actually display any of those qualities.

In the end, I cannot say any of this surprises me. Sammie and I have been watching Iris closely for awhile, and everything we predicted has come to pass - right down to the attitude problem.

If you want to read it all, the end of Iris is here

I've been watching/reporting on this, and the whole thing just makes me slightly ill.

THIS IS WHY PRECIOUS SNOWFLAKE AUTHORS WHO ARE DIRE NEED OF PSYCHIATRIC HELP, AS WELL AS BELIEVE THAT JESUS BLOWS KISSES OUT OF THEIR ASS MUST NEVER, NEVER, IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCES RUN THEIR OWN COMPANY. THERE ARE PROPER BUSINESS AND LEGAL PEOPLE TO DO THAT FOR YOU, DUMBASS. ALSO, NON-PRECIOUS SNOWFLAKE AUTHORS SHOULD NEVER GO INTO BUSINESS WITH SMALL INDEPENDENT PUBLISHING HOUSES LEST, THEIR CONTRACT WITH THEM STARTS TO READ LIKE THE LATEST SCRIPT OF GOSSIP GIRL.

This fills me with rage.

*agrees*

What kills me is all the writers who suffered. When you put something you slaved on out there, you'd like to think the service you're using is grateful and will respect your work, treating it right.

And the readers who bought but have yet to see anything.. But I think the lack of communication is the worst. At least be aware that other people depend on you! That if you want to ruin yourself, go right ahead, but do NOT go around ruining other people's lives/part of their lives with you!

Oh boy. I had no clue this shot was going on in the shadows. At least Blindeye Books is still good, so far.
