I really wish I could get this book.
Mostly because I'm probably going to hate it. Nothing is more fun to read than a book that gets your blood boiling. I guess I'm just blood-thirsty at heart or something. But I saw it in the bookstore awhile back when I spent my gift certificate. Just skimming it made me crack up and roll my eyes. Because near as I can tell from reviews and my brief perusal -- the chick maintains that porn is ruining sexlives and stuff (which could be true? I dunno...but I certainly wouldn't make my boyfriend/husband throw his out...then what would I do with mine?) and is especially bad for women. Something of a femminist, is my impression.
Which makes me wonder just what the hell she was doing for research. Like I said, I only skimmed it. The page I read was about a woman who watched (guys') porn when she was alone or to laugh at with friends (which my buddies in school used to do. What was that late night show that always had you people howling?). Like some sort of guilty notreallyapleasure.
And I know slash doesn't float everyone's boat. But wtf do you call thebodice-ripper romance section of the bookstore? And clearly no one ever glances at the manga section (which, granted, would not have bee prolific when she did her research - but there were romance books aplenty).
Maybe she mentions that. I'd like to see. But if she does what I think she's going to do, I am *so* going to have fun writing her and challenging her theories *hums* This is proabbly the only reason I could have stayed on an academic track - I'm opionated and love picking fights over it ^_~ But that's about it. My Queen and Gomi-chan totally outstrip me otherwise.
So. Want. Book. Heh. If I didn't think others more suited were already writing such books, I'd tackle it myself. I'll just stick with writing the slashy barbara cartland's. XD XD
*EDIT*
Wow, she interviewed "over a 100 people" and it sounds like the majority of them men?
...it's true I'm not in academia anymore but that's a solid research base how? OMG SOMEBODY STOP ME FROM BUYING THIS BOOK.
I wonder what she'd think of me? Fan of slash and while I have a taste for fluff there's plenty of pr0n on my comp (wow do I have too many ebooks...damn you torquere!), nevermind the yaoi on my bookcases. List of prefs and kinks...let's see...mom and dad don't read this..
Twincest
Threesome, pref with twincest
Most BDSM
Rivals/Enemies - oh the tension <3
I seem to have an affinty or something for..anthros? is that the term? (Chimaera, Doug, Half the chars in Kidnapped...)
I'd better stop before I prove just how perverted I am. No wonder she didn't interview slashfangirls. We'd proabbly terrifty her.
*dies laughing* This is the most fun I've had at lunch for ages. I am my own greatest source of amusement. Is that good or bad?
