I got a petition a few hours ago, and since have gotten many comments and emails since, concerning this - and I see dozens of posts about it, and I find the entire thing baffling in its stupidity.

Apparently Amazon is ranking GLBT books as 'adult' and stripping them of their sales ranks, so that they do not show up in various searches and all.

I will not rehash what many have already said, and much better, merely provide those links. I wonder what Amazon is playing, at, however. It seems too stupid a move to make any sort of sense--not to mention it cannot be entirely legal. But, we shall see. As others have said, it's still the weekend, and a holiday weekend at that. We'll see what comes over the next few days.

Links:

Probst apparently got the email that started it all
The Smart Bitches discuss it at length, and are as always an awesome source (and they even managed to orchestrate a google bombing, win).
la times article

There are dozens of other links around, as well. The week should prove to be an interesting one.

Is it bad when your friends that say "Homosexuality isn't right" are reacting to this by boycotting amazon because of the censorship thing? (Said friend continues the homosexuality statement with "but it's your business." but hey...)

The last straw. Look at what comes up when you search for homosexuality on amazon:

Books on how to 'prevent' homosexuality, how to 'heal' homosexuality.

Simply revolting.

..........i'm hopeing that this is a huge mistake on amazon's part that will be fixed soon, but yeah....i know that's stretching things a bit

On a completely different note:

"It seems too stupid a move to make any sort of sense"... seconded. I can't see the motivation, because as soon as it's noticed by the broader population they have no choice but to say, "oops, glitch". Now they look like a)incompetent arses or b)lying, incompetent arses. Why'd they do it?

I think after this massive fuck-up made digg.com about 5 and a half million times, Amazon decided it was a "glitch" that is being corrected.

But... until it is fixed and an apology is made (hopefully they aren't dumb enough not to offer one), I will be boycotting.

Apparently they're taking action to fix their "glitch". Someone fucked up and now they're trying to salvage the situation. *sigh*

Speaking of links, might I bother you to update the link you have to my site whenever you find the time and desire to do so? *kitten eyes*
