Why is it such an awful thing to be a stripper? I don't get it. This chick on the radio is Deeply Concerned that her 18-year old daughter is a stripper. And now they're talking about how she plans to be a journalist someday.

"She needs to learn it's not all about the money."

...
...
...it seems to me, listening, that all that money will be useful to help her toward the journalist thing. A profession like that doesn't come cheap. AND NOW THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT HOW MUCH MONEY JOURNALISTS GET. Who the hell needs to wake up here?

Jeez. My parents used to make comments about me being a stripper (I would suck at it, except in the matter of my rack). People need to chill. Moral issue? What moral issue? People bitch about all the wrong shit.

Um, hate to inform you of this, luv, but you are in the Midwest.

My family's very much in the Midwest mindset when it comes to certain things, though we are more adventurous in culinary interest than things used to be in Indiana etc. (My parents lived some places where Pizza was considered exotic food.)

As such, you're very much dealing with more of the overriding conservative and religious influence than you'd find in say... Las Vegas. That having been said, I stand with the Green Party on some issues, the Democrats on others, the Republicans on a third set, and Libertarian on a fourth. Someone can be very liberal, but just have a different idea on a specific issue. That proves that they're actually capable of thinking for themselves, which is impressive in this day and age. (People around here often vote Republican simply because their parents do... not because they actually have an opinion of their own.)

Honestly, though, money's money to me, and I see nothing wrong with a woman stripping to pay her way through school.

Heh. You speaka da good sense. I do live in the worst possible area for this X_x I think the majority of the city is Sunday-Catholic, which makes things real interesting. And honestly it wasn't so much the topic as the...I dunno, their tones. They were cold, condescending and her mother sounded ashamed. It upset me that such a trivial thing could cause so much upset. So much was passed over and ignored to rant about her stripping.

You may live in the land of the Sunday Catholics, but I live in the land of the Southern Baptists. I know about conservative influences, believe you me.

I think also, the woman's trying to deflect a lot of her shame at the situation onto her daughter, which is the entire reason she called in, I bet. Trying to get more people on her side, not that it makes her argument any more logical.

Besides, if there wasn't an issue to get people's dander up, morning talk radio would blow most heartily.
