Every year I do the yuletide ficathon, b/c it's hella cool to get that rare otp youll never get otherwise.
I wish there was somethihg like that for originals.
I only think of it because it's probably the only way I'll ever get the story I really want, but don't want to write, except I'm sure I'll wind up writing it anyway.
Way too complicated a thing to manage for original stories, but still.
Though, on that note, what is the premise/idea/setting/whatever that you'd all but sell your soul for?
Me, it's deserts. Complete with warring tribes, hot sheiks even hotter for each other. None of this sissy boys for the harem crap. I mean full on battle, warlords who don't want to want each other. Rivalry, enemies, whathaveyou is my ultimate weakness. Especially in the middle of a desert. Alas, I seldom see it and cannot offhand think of when I saw it really really really well done.
Going to bed now. But do tell, I love knowing what makes everyone go *__*
Though I bet I already know what I'll get from a few of you <3
And even if Tsaiko's story hates me (I'm half tempted to expand that stupid dragon drabble for you, but that tastes like cheating), Sky's story loves me. <3

Re: Actually... you probably already know this one,

That's true. I mean, just like stereotypes, cliches have their grain of truth/appeal.
I gave up reading the romance novels featuring those because I invaribly wanted to stab someone for being inordinately weird and/or stupid. They are Manly Men! They fear modern conviences and yet can leap small building with their steeds of glory. Or something. I don't know. The whole thing's kind of a head scratcher to me.
But I can see why you'd want a good western. It'd be a good place for conflict and lots of yummy characters. ^_^

Honest to god. Hmmm... let me see if I can find it... *searches files* Ah ha! *finds*

Somehow, Christian found himself in the back room, staring through the bars of the cell occupied by Zane. Just… watching him.
He was stretched out along the tiny cot, hat tipped carelessly over his eyes, long, lean legs crossed at the ankles, feet hanging off the edge. His hair would be jagged and unkempt, the color of white sand. Eyes a clear amber. He likely had a day or two’s growth of hair his face.
“As you can see, Marshal,” a deep, lazy voice drawled from under the hat, “I’m still here.”
Christian didn’t respond, didn’t move. And again the silence followed as he continued watching, and Zane continued ignoring. It was almost ten minutes before either of them spoke, and again, it was Zane. Still in that deep bass that could send shivers down Christian’s spine. Still without bothering to move his hat or look in Christian’s direction.
“I’m wondering, Marshal, how long it is you intend to stand there watching me.”
“Too long.” Something in his voice must have given him away because Zane raised himself up just slightly, leaning back on his elbows, tilting the brim of his hat, eyes intent as they gazed at Christian. Christian stepped closer to the cell, stopping with the toes of his boots tapped against the metal bars. “Not long enough.”
And that was really all that he needed to say.
Zane didn’t say anything, just shifted and moved, standing in one smooth, fluid motion and covering the few steps that separated the end of the cot from the end of the cell where Christian stood. It was eerie, the grace with which he moved, though Christian found himself admiring it all the same.
“Have you ever danced with the devil, Christian?” His voice was low and husky but just as deep. Zane slipped a hand between the bars and grasped Christian’s chin between two long, tapered fingers and his thumb, forcing their eyes to meet.
“No.” But he wanted to, and he had sense that tonight… he just might.

Re: Actually... you probably already know this one,
Date: 2006-05-10 01:05 am (UTC)I'll have to tack these two to my list of "Stories to Work On", then too.
Re: Actually... you probably already know this one,
Date: 2006-05-10 03:57 am (UTC)Like sky says, you make uber chemistry. I usually end up rereading parts of the dialogue like five times just because they make me melt into warm piles of happiness.
